In the northwest of Shanghai, bordering Baoshan and Putuo districts, there is an area called Jiading, which was originally part of Jiangsu Province and was assigned to Shanghai by Jiangsu in 1958.

He was rated as a first-class professor by the State Council, committed suicide in 1967, and his granddaughter was an international movie star

Since the Qing Dynasty, Jiading has suffered too much, the "Jiading Three Massacres" in the early years of the Qing Dynasty and the "August 13 Incident" during the Republic of China have brought serious damage to China, of course, Jiading is not short of heroic children, such as the "Jiading Three Massacres" in the martyrdom Hou Tongzeng, known as the Paris Peace Conference eloquent Gu Weijun and so on.

The one we are going to talk about today is also from Jiading, his name is Zhang Changshao, he is a famous pharmacologist, and he was rated as a first-class professor by the State Council, but Zhang Changshao's ending is not very good.

On September 25, 1906, Zhang Changshao was born in a poor family in Wangxianqiao Town, Jiading County, Jiangsu Province, his father was a rural primary school teacher, but Zhang Changshao did not receive systematic cultural education, after graduating from primary school, he entered a private Shude Hospital in Suzhou as an apprentice, he worked during the day, and studied all the junior high school courses by himself at night.

Although Zhang Changshao was engaged in the medical field, he was also very concerned about the fate of the country, published current reviews in newspapers, campaigned for the future of the country, and led the campaign to expel the "principal".

In 1928, Zhang Changshao was admitted to the School of Medicine of Nanjing Central University, which later became Shanghai Medical College, and stayed at the school as a teaching assistant after graduation.

In 1930, Zhang Changshao met an outstanding young woman, that is, Shi Yifan of the Faculty of Arts of National Central University, Shi Yifan was a famous sociologist and friends with Xu Zhimo, Shen Congwen, and Ding Ling.

It is worth mentioning that at the beginning, it was Shi Ifan's sister who first met and fell in love with Zhang Changshao, but later Zhang Changshao married Shi Ivan.

In 1937, Zhang Changshao was admitted to study abroad at public expense, went to the University of London Medical School to study for a doctorate, specializing in the study of adrenergic neuropharmacology, and once entered the United States Harvard Medical School for visiting study, in 1941, Zhang Changshao refused the reservation of the United States, resolutely embarked on a journey back to China, and served as an associate professor of pharmacology at Shanghai Medical College after returning to China.

In 1946, at the age of 40, Zhang Changshao was promoted to a first-class professor, fully responsible for the teaching and research of the Department of Pharmacology, and did a lot of pioneering and foundation work for the research and development of pharmacology in China, and was known as the "founder of Chinese pharmacology".

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the state attached great importance to Zhang Changshao's talent in the academic field, and arranged for him to give full play to his talents in suitable positions, in addition to serving as a professor of pharmacology and director of the teaching and research department, Zhang Changshao also served as an academic member of the Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Pharmacopoeia Commission of the Ministry of Health, and the head of the new drug group.

In 1956, Zhang Changshao was rated as a first-class professor by the State Council.

Zhang Changshao is approachable and gentle, focusing all his energy on work and research, taking lunch and dinner in the laboratory every day, and returning home in the evening accompanied by lights and the sound of ticking typewriters.

During the Great Leap Forward, under the influence of "leftist" ideology, the country experienced serious economic difficulties, and under such circumstances, Zhang Changshao actively purchased public bonds, handed over his own cloth bills, and even used his manuscript fees as experimental funds, doing his best to help the country tide over the difficulties.

Unexpectedly, after the start of the Ten Year Movement, Zhang Changshao was endlessly criticized and persecuted, and committed suicide in Shanghai on December 20, 1967, at the age of 61.
