The sun is shining, the temperature is warming, and everything is full of life. In Thailand, a country of enthusiasm, people are looking forward to the craziest festival of all, Songkran.

As the most solemn traditional New Year celebration in Thailand, Songkran is known as the "Carnival of the East".

On this day, people take to the streets, splashing water taps, water guns, and water balloons on each other to celebrate the arrival of the new year. The Songkran Festival, which has just been successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List, should become the most proud and carefree festival for the Thai people.

However, during the Songkran Festival this year, the sudden tragedy suddenly froze this jubilation into endless mourning. Traffic accidents have sprung up across the country, causing 287 people killed and 2,060 injured in six days. Blood was spilled all over Thailand, and the joyous festival suddenly cast a shadow.

Looking back on the whole incident, the shock and regret in my heart could not be calmed down for a long time. What is even more worrying is that the cause of this tragedy is actually the illegal acts of Thai citizens themselves.

There are two main reasons for such heavy casualties: one is drunk driving, and the other is speeding.

We cannot but deeply deplore and strongly condemn drunk driving. Traditionally, it's normal for people to drink heavily during Songkran. It can be said that the whole festival atmosphere is full of the smell of alcohol. However, it is precisely this merry drinking habit that makes some people go beyond the norm and drive on the road as a matter of course after being drunk. They completely ignore the great harm that drunk driving brings to others and themselves, and this kind of selfish and reckless behavior is simply shocking!

How many innocent passers-by, how many jubilant festival people, were killed at such a festive moment! The grieving family members will never be able to forgive these drunk drivers for their actions, and they have paid a priceless price for this indelible pain.

At the same time, some people try to avoid traffic in order to compete on the road, and they return at high speeds beyond reasonable limits. Driven by such a "ghost-free" mentality, they ignore traffic rules and regard the safety of other people's lives as if they were nothing. In their hands, the car seemed to have become a murderous weapon, raging wildly on the road, sowing the horror of death.

In this way, life was ruthlessly taken away at the moment when Sesame opened the door, and family and friends watched the death of relatives and friends, and were traumatized physically and mentally. Isn't all this because some people want to show their "true heroic qualities" on the streets? Why are they so arrogant and play with the lives of others with their own desires?

In the face of this major traffic disaster, we cannot but reflect on the deep-seated reasons for such a tragic outcome. It is true that drunk driving and speeding are the direct triggers, but in the final analysis, it is because some people are too self-indulgent and lack basic safety awareness and legal concepts.

In this era of rampant materialism and hedonism, people's pursuit of pleasure often loses due restraint. We can often see that some people are afraid of missing out on any kind of stimulation and entertainment, and thus become indulgent and unruly. Their ignorance of the law and their disregard for the lives of others ultimately led to this terrible disaster.

Some people may say, what's wrong with the occasional little violation? We're still young, so why be so stubborn? However, what I want to ask is, who gave you this privilege to play with the bottom line of the law at will? Is the price of life a pass to happiness for you and me?

I firmly believe that order and freedom are not opposites. It is precisely because of the constraints of the rules that we can truly appreciate the connotation of freedom. The reason why the Songkran Festival in Thailand can remain fragrant for centuries is because of the awareness of order that the people consciously abide by. Otherwise, the grand carnival will soon degenerate into a chaotic and disorderly commotion.

We certainly want to see people partying on festivals like Songkran, but only if they don't hurt others and don't undermine the rule of law. Only by attaching great importance to life safety and respecting traffic laws can the happy carnival of Songkran be passed on forever and not turn into endless tragedies.

In the face of this major disaster, the government and relevant departments have taken a series of countermeasures in a timely manner, such as increasing the investigation and punishment of traffic violations and increasing the amount of penalties. However, in order to truly reverse this chaos, the most fundamental thing is to strengthen the rule of law education for the whole people, so that everyone can establish a sense of reverence for life.

Friends, in this joyous holiday, should we also reflect on our own code of conduct?

Are there still too many people who confuse happiness with indulgence? Are we not in awe of the law enough? I sincerely hope that in the future, all of you will be in awe of life, always abide by the laws and regulations, and jointly maintain the most basic order in this society.
