The fourth Ronald McDonald House in Chinese mainland will be located in Shenzhen

On April 20, 2024, the 8th "Run for Love Mak" hosted by McDonald's China kicked off today at the Splendid China Folk Village in Shenzhen. Nearly 25,000 families signed up for this year's "Run for Aimai", bringing together nearly 60,000 runners. The funds raised from the event will be remitted to the "Ronald McDonald House Charity Fund of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation" (hereinafter referred to as "China McDonald House") for the operation and construction of the "Ronald McDonald House" physical public welfare project.

In the first leg of the event, 5,000 children and their parents wore the same red and white striped socks as Ronald McDonald's classic and completed a three-kilometer run in the form of a happy parent-child run, sending warm support to the families of children who seek medical treatment in other places. Since its first launch in 2014, "Run for McDonald's" has become McDonald's signature parent-child charity activity, gathering love, supporting the community and helping public welfare in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

"McDonald's China is committed to uniting the community with delicious taste and love, especially continuing to support Ronald McDonald's House, promoting the construction of physical public welfare operations, and working with our customers and partners from all walks of life to make a contribution to the children who seek medical treatment in other places," said Zhang Jiayin, CEO of McDonald's China. ”

This year's "Run for Love Mai" was also supported by the "Big Hands Holding Small Hands" column of the Children's Channel of China Central Radio and Television, and Sister Ju Ping of the Children's Channel and Yu Jia of the Sports Channel hosted a cross-platform live broadcast in the first stop of the event, so that more children could learn about Ronald McDonald's House. The children who filled in the greeting cards at the event site also had the opportunity to come to the Beijing finale of the "Run for Aimai" to participate in the recording of the special program "Big Hands Holding Small Hands".

A large-scale public welfare parent-child run: 20 cities will be linked, bringing together nearly 60,000 people

The first stop of the "Run for Love Mai" activity was warmed up in the McDonald's classic "Four Little Blessings" happy parade. In the interactive flower wall area, children and parents filled in love messages on cards in the shape of Shenzhen flower triangle plums, sent blessings to the children of Ronald McDonald House, and connected with each other with good wishes. For many children, this is their first three-kilometre run. After the run, the children and their parents came to the "Run for Aimai" carnival area to spend parent-child time in a series of interactive games. A "Charity Sale" area will be set up on site, and the charity sale will include handicrafts made by the children staying at Ronald McDonald House, and all proceeds from the charity sale will be invested in public welfare projects.

Held for the first time in 2014, more than 200,000 people participated in the previous seven sessions, with a cumulative running mileage of about 600,000 kilometers, and has become McDonald's signature parent-child charity running activity. This year's event will start in 20 cities across the country in more than a month, and will end on May 25 in Beijing Garden Expo Park, which is the largest number of cities linked in the previous activities. At the scene, the children will use the city flowers of their respective cities as the carrier to send a blessing to the children who seek medical treatment in other places, wishing them a speedy recovery.

The Ronald McDonald House aims to create a "home away from home" by providing accommodation space and care services from nearby hospitals for families of children in need who are seeking medical treatment in other places. In 2006, McDonald's China cooperated with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation to establish the "China McFund". Up to now, the China McDonald Fund has promoted the Ronald McDonald House to be put into use in three cities: Changsha, Shanghai and Beijing.

The fourth Ronald McDonald House in Chinese mainland will be located in Shenzhen

At the launch event of "Run for Love", China McDonald Fund announced that it is currently working with Shenzhen Children's Hospital to build the fourth Ronald McDonald House in Chinese mainland, which is expected to be completed in 2024.

The new project is located near Shenzhen Children's Hospital Longhua Campus, a 10-minute walk away, and is expected to provide free accommodation for more than 100 families each year. Like the three Ronald McDonald Homes already in use, the Shenzhen project will be designed and built in accordance with LEED green building standards, providing a comfortable and secure living space for the resident family.

Luo Xinle, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenzhen Children's Hospital, said, "It is a very difficult problem for many families to seek medical treatment for sick children in other places, and thanks to the long-term attention and investment of the China McDonald Foundation on this issue, we will actively promote public welfare cooperation, so that the new Ronald McDonald House can truly support children and families in difficulty." Thank you to McDonald's China and every child who participated in the Love for McRun for their support and trust. ”

At present, the three Ronald McDonald Homes in Chinese mainland are supporting children and their families seeking medical treatment in other places through high-quality and refined operations. As of the end of 2023, the three Ronald McDonald Homes have served more than 1,290 families and provided more than 58,000 nights of good sleep.

2024 is the 50th anniversary of the global launch of the Ronald McDonald House project, and this time was chosen to build a new Ronald McDonald House in Shenzhen, on the one hand, because the concept of "children's family center" of Shenzhen Children's Hospital is in line with the goal of "Uncle House", and on the other hand, because of the "fate" between McDonald's and the city of Shenzhen - in October 1990, McDonald's first restaurant in Chinese mainland landed in Shenzhen, opening the process of "two-way running" between McDonald's and the Chinese market.

McDonald's China continues to invest in public welfare and serve the community

McDonald's has been in the Chinese market for more than 30 years, and up to now, it has more than 6,000 restaurants and more than 200,000 employees across the country, making China the second largest market in the world and the fastest growing market for McDonald's. McDonald's China is rooted in the local community, practices "Unite the community and neighbors with delicious food and love", let the good be passed on from community to community, pay attention to the well-being of children, and strive to make generations of children grow up healthier, happier and more dreamy.

Since 2006, McDonald's China has donated more than 150 million yuan to the China McFoundation by pooling the joint efforts of the company, employees, suppliers and franchisees. Now, for every Happy Meal sold, the restaurant will donate 0.5 yuan to the China McDonald Fund to fund the construction and operation of Ronald McDonald House. In 2024, the charity fundraising channel will gradually cover McDonald's restaurants across the country, so that more consumers can participate in donations.

Since its first launch, the event has been supported by fundraising donations from various industry partners. This year's 8th "Run for Aimai" brought together the loving support of enterprises including Jian'anxi, Sanyuan Food, Coca-Cola, CITIC Prudential, CITIC Pacific and other enterprises to jointly help public welfare.

"Since the opening of the first Ronald McDonald House in Chinese mainland, we have received continuous support from industry partners and friends from all walks of life, helping the physical public welfare in the form of donations, material donations and volunteer services," said Gu Lei, co-director of the Ronald McDonald House Charitable Foundation of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and chief impact officer of McDonald's China. ”
