Recently, many auto bigwigs are calling for accelerating the development of electric vehicles, and at the same time accelerating the elimination of pure oil vehicles, because the advantages of electric vehicles are too obvious, low energy consumption, environmental protection, acceleration and quietness have more outstanding advantages than oil vehicles of the same level.
As of 2023, the penetration rate of electric vehicles in China is about 35%. The country with the highest EV penetration rate in the world is Sweden, which exceeds 50%. Therefore, there are also a considerable number of netizens in China who have such a question, the development momentum of domestic electric vehicles is so fast, so when will the penetration rate of electric vehicles reach 50%?
According to the car sales in the first half of April this year released by the Passenger Car Association, the retail sales of new energy vehicles reached 260,000 units, an increase of 32% compared with the same period last year. The retail sales of the entire domestic passenger car market were 516,000. Through a simple comparison, it can be found that the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in the first half of April has reached 50.39%, which is an extremely rare historical moment. Because the policy of electric vehicles has not changed much throughout 2024, it is basically a natural choice for the market.
There are also some media on the Internet who say that people who buy fuel cars have officially become a minority! Actually, I don't agree with this view. Because the development speed of electric vehicles is indeed very fast, but a considerable part of them are gasoline-electric hybrid systems, not pure electric vehicles. According to the new energy vehicle data survey, plug-in hybrids and new range-extended hybrids account for about 40% of the market share of electric vehicles, and the growth rate of new hybrid vehicles with engines is much greater than that of pure electric models. In other words, domestic consumers are still willing to buy half-gasoline and half-electric hybrids.
The future trend is definitely that the market share of pure fuel vehicles will be further reduced. As international gasoline has been running at a high price, more and more consumers choose to use oil and electricity, and they usually use electricity at every step and travel long distances. This is the perfect solution. Therefore, I don't think the internal combustion engine will completely disappear in the next decade, and the most likely thing is to take a back seat from the main force and become an alternative powertrain for gasoline-electric hybrids.
To be honest, the current pure oil models basically do not have many advantages. Like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi, they are all vigorously developing pure electric or gasoline-electric hybrid systems. Those large-displacement luxury new cars have almost become a rarity. The Porsche Macan has already been launched in an electric version, and the Maserati's first all-electric model has already been launched.
The reason why gasoline vehicles cannot compete with pure electric models or hybrid models is that on the one hand, energy consumption is a problem, and on the other hand, a natural architecture problem. The traditional oil vehicle architecture often relies on a large number of mechanical structural parts, and there is no way to accurately control the whole vehicle, while the current electric vehicles generally have a more accurate electronic architecture and a domain system to control the whole vehicle, so from the perspective of vehicle efficiency, the tram is better than the oil car. It won't be long before the market share of electric vehicles will further expand, after all, pure oil models like the Buick GL8 have become plug-in hybrids.
