For the first time, Hong Kong's container terminals fell out of the top 10 in the world
Alphaliner, an international shipping research institute, released the latest container port rankings, and Hong Kong's container terminal ranked 11th out of the top 10 in the world for the first time, handling 14.34 million TEUs last year, down 1 percent year-on-year, and falling for seven consecutive years. This is also the first time on record that Hong Kong has fallen out of the top 10 in the world in terms of container throughput. In the face of the fact that many goods have been changed to direct entry and exit from mainland ports without re-export through Hong Kong, some think tanks believe that the transformation of high value-added should be accelerated.
Alphaliner released the latest statistics on the world's 30 busiest container ports last year last year, and Shanghai topped the list with 49,158,000 TEUs last year, up 3.9% year-on-year and 13.5% over 2019.
It was followed by Singapore, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Busan, Tianjin and Los Angeles/Long Beach in the United States, while Dubai replaced Hong Kong in 10th place.

Two men were arrested for possessing tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars in marijuana
