Ranking objects
The "2024 Ranking of Chinese Universities" is based on universities that meet the following two criteria:
- There are undergraduate graduates in 2022;
- There are no less than 100 full-time teachers.
Universities that have changed their names, transferred or terminated their operations since the announcement of the list by the Ministry of Education (as of February 28, 2024) will use the changed information in the rankings. In addition, the China Fire and Rescue College, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences are not included in the ranking due to special circumstances. Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, Baotou Normal College of Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, and Baotou Medical College of Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology are one university in the list announced by the Ministry of Education, but they each recruit and run schools independently, so they are ranked separately as three schools.
In May 2020, the Ministry of Education issued the "Implementation Plan on Accelerating the Conversion of Independent Colleges", proposing a transfer path of "turning into a private school, turning into a public school, and terminating the school". From 2022, the "Ranking of Chinese Universities" will no longer rank independent colleges separately, and those that have been converted to public universities will be included in the main list or the corresponding single-subject university rankings, and those that have been converted to private universities will be included in the private university rankings.
A total of 1,090 universities are listed in the 2024 Rankings of Chinese Universities, including 844 public universities, 238 private universities, and 8 Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run schools, as well as 8 Chinese-foreign cooperative schools and Chinese-foreign cooperative schools in the Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Due to the characteristics of China's higher education system, in order to ensure the comparability and fairness of comparison between universities, the "2024 Ranking of Chinese Universities" has set up 1 main list (comprehensive university ranking), 6 single-subject university rankings, 4 non-public university rankings, and a list of art universities, and 1090 universities are included in one of the corresponding rankings or lists according to the nature of the school and the type of school.

Evaluation system
The evaluation system of "Ranking of Chinese Universities" is derived from the self-developed visual evaluation patent technology, relying on the big data support of the "University 360-degree Data Monitoring Platform", and sets up the level of running the school, the level of disciplines, the resources of running the school, the scale and structure of the faculty, the cultivation of talents, scientific research, the service to the society, high-end talents, major projects and achievements, There are 10 evaluation modules of international competitiveness, subdivided into 36 evaluation dimensions, embedded with 100 evaluation indicators, and involving 373 evaluation variables, which is a three-dimensional monitoring evaluation of the level of Chinese universities.
The "Ranking of Chinese Universities" follows the principle of "comprehensive evaluation and classification evaluation", and adopts a differentiated index system to rank universities according to the characteristics of different natures and different types of universities.

Scoring method
The university that performs best in one indicator or meets a set upper limit is given a score of 1 on that indicator, and the other universities are scored in proportion to the maximum or upper limit. According to the weighted summary index score of the module, the score of the university in each evaluation module is obtained, and the total score of the university is obtained after the scores of each module are accumulated.
In order to avoid the influence of abnormal data on the calculation of scores, the upper limit of an indicator is set to the maximum value of all vice-ministerial-level universities in the main list, single-subject universities and cooperatively-run universities, and the upper limit of the index in the private main list and the ranking of private finance and economics and private language universities is the maximum value of all private universities on this indicator, and universities exceeding the upper limit are awarded full scores. In addition, when the data distribution of a certain indicator is too different, and the data of the second university is not higher than 50% of the upper limit, the data of the second university is used as the upper limit, and the university that exceeds the upper limit is given full marks.
