Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the list of selected personnel and funders for the 2023 Rural Culture and Tourism Leader Support Project. Shi Jiezhong and Long Fei of Xiangxi Prefecture were both selected as the "2023 Rural Culture and Tourism Leader Support Project", and Shi Jiezhong was awarded the title of "2023 Rural Culture and Tourism Leader Support Project Sponsor".
The Rural Culture and Tourism Leaders Support Project aims to implement the rural revitalization strategy, select and cultivate a group of outstanding leaders who can not only inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture in rural areas, but also promote the integrated development of rural culture and tourism, and provide strong talent guarantee and intellectual support for rural revitalization.
Shi Jiezhong, the inheritor of Xiangxi batik: illuminate the road to prosperity for the disabled with the light of intangible cultural heritage
Shi Jiezhong, although he is disabled, carries forward the batik technique with tenacious perseverance and love for art. He innovatively combined batik and Miao embroidery, integrated modern aesthetic art, and created a unique batik work, which was well received by the market. In order to pass on this skill, he established Huayuan County Marudi National Craft Co., Ltd. The company not only makes products, but also provides valuable employment opportunities for more than 80 poor groups and disabled people in the surrounding area through batik skills training.
Shi Jiezhong also integrated elements such as the Miao people's knife ladder, scarf dance, and Miao drum into the batik experience project, which attracted a large number of tourists and research teams to visit and study, and further promoted the local economic development. In 2018, Shi Jiezhong was awarded the annual "Most Beautiful Sunshine Rich Leader" by the Hunan Provincial Poverty Alleviation Office. From 2019 to 2021, Shi Jiezhong distributed more than 30,000 chicken and duck seedlings and more than 280 boxes of bee seedlings to poor households and the disabled through sunshine income training. In 2020, the company was awarded the "13th Five-Year Plan for the Disabled Sunshine Poverty Alleviation Provincial Demonstration Base". In 2021, it was awarded the "National Cultural and Creative Industry Base for Persons with Disabilities" by the General Office of the China Disabled Persons' Federation.
In 2021, Shi Jiezhong founded Huayuan Chenhui Rehabilitation Co., Ltd., which not only provides self-care training, social adaptability training, and sports rehabilitation training for more than 70 disabled people with mental, intellectual, and severe physical disabilities, but also teaches batik craftsmanship to enable disabled people to master a livelihood skill. This "care + employment" model allows the disabled to realize their self-worth while being taken care of, and truly achieve "care" and "happiness".
In 2023, Shi Jiezhong, as an excellent partner of Xiangxi Global Geopark, became the subject of re-evaluation and on-site inspection, and his intangible cultural heritage assistance model was highly praised by UNESCO experts. This model not only injects new vitality into the development of Xiangxi's cultural and tourism industry, but also provides valuable experience and inspiration for global intangible cultural heritage protection and employment of persons with disabilities.
Long Fei: Build Morong Miao Village as a demonstration scenic spot for rural tourism
Long Fei, general manager of Xiangxi Morong Miaozhai Rural Tour Co., Ltd., integrated local resources through shareholding reform in Longbizui Village, Merong Town, Guzhang County, transformed resources into assets, funds into shares, and villagers into shareholders, making full use of the collective advantages of the village to develop the rural tourism industry. With the "integration of culture and tourism" and "combination of tea and tourism" as the core, he has successfully built two major tourism commodity industry chains of "intangible cultural heritage silverware processing and sales" and "tea production and sales". At the same time, it also actively encourages villagers to set up tourism-related business entities, such as Miao special catering, clothing, accommodation, tourism commodity sales, etc., and finally successfully build a first-class ecological environment, beautiful natural scenery, complete tourism facilities, outstanding Miao customs, perfect service management of the Morong Miao Village Rural Tourism Scenic Spot.
The Morong Miaozhai Scenic Area receives more than 1.3 million tourists annually, with a comprehensive tourism income of more than 200 million yuan, and the local per capita income has soared from less than 800 yuan in 2013 to more than 23,000 yuan today, realizing the dream of increasing income and getting rich at the doorstep, and Longbizui Village was successfully lifted out of poverty three years ahead of schedule in 2017.
Longbizui Village and enterprises have been awarded the titles of "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art", "Chinese Traditional Village", "Chinese Minority Characteristic Village", "National 3A-level Tourist Attraction", "Demonstration Unit of Precise Poverty Alleviation Action of Thousands of Enterprises in Xiangxi Prefecture", "Advanced Collective of Social Poverty Alleviation in Decisive Battle and Decisive Victory in Poverty Alleviation", "Demonstration Employment and Poverty Alleviation Workshop in Hunan Province" and so on. Longfei also took the Morong Miaozhai Scenic Area as the center, and built a global tourism industry in Tamji Village, Ludongshan Town, Baojing County, Guocha Village, Hulu Town, Shuangfeng Village, Lingxi Town, Yongshun County, and Qingping Town, directly and indirectly benefiting more than 100,000 people, becoming a model for local governments to consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation and effectively connect with rural revitalization.
