April 15-21, 2024 is the 30th National Cancer Prevention and Treatment Publicity Week, and the theme of this year's Publicity Week is "Comprehensive Policies for Scientific Cancer Prevention". In our daily life, how should we prevent cancer? What changes in the body should we seek medical attention in time? Meng Xianfeng, deputy chief physician of the Department of Urology of the Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine, gave an answer.
Many people think that a tumor is cancer, but in fact, the two are not exactly the same thing. Tumors in a broad sense include benign tumors, borderline tumors and malignant tumors, and strictly speaking, only malignant tumors can be called "cancer". Meng Xianfeng, Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Urology of the Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, introduced:
"Conscientious tumors are more common, such as breast nodules, thyroid nodules, prostatic hyperplasia in men, and malignant tumors are actually cancers."
Many people believe that cancer must be killed after having cancer, and experts suggest that a comprehensive evaluation should be carried out:
"Whether he is eligible for radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, or targeted therapy is not a doctor's choice"
According to experts, cancer has biological characteristics such as uncontrolled abnormal growth of cell differentiation and proliferation, invasion and metastasis, which are divided into three processes: carcinogenic, pro-cancer and evolution, which are closely related to smoking, infection, occupational exposure, environmental pollution, unreasonable diet and genetic factors.
"Malignant tumor he may metastasize, it is not only in the local invasion, it may metastasize to the brain, kidneys, liver, bones, metastasis to the lungs, it has metastatic characteristics"
Cancer arises from a single cell. The transformation from a normal cell to a tumor cell is a multi-stage process, usually from a precancerous lesion to a malignant tumor. These changes are the result of an interaction between a person's genetic factors and three external factors, including: radioactive carcinogens (e.g., ultraviolet and ionizing radiation), chemical carcinogens (e.g., asbestos, tobacco smoke components, aflatoxins (a food contaminant), and arsenic (a drinking water contaminant)), biological carcinogens (e.g., infections caused by certain viruses, bacteria, or parasites):
"We must maintain an optimistic state of life, quit smoking, stop drinking, love sports, have a regular routine, and staying up late for a long time is particularly bad for our health."
Expert tip: The early signs of cancer can be summarized into five main points:
"Unexplained bleeding, such as nosebleeds, coughing up blood, blood in the urine or blood in the stool, the second is emaciation, unexplained emaciation, a few months of loss of ten pounds, eight pounds or even dozens of pounds, the third characteristic is a lump, and finally the pain is cancer pain, if there is pain, don't worry too much, because there is too much pain in life"
