Liu Xifen, a woman born in a poor family in Xiamen in 1924, her mother was a dowry maid who married in with the main family.
However, after giving birth to two daughters in succession, the mother passed away with endless resentment due to humiliation. And his father was also indifferent to Liu Xifen and her sister, as if they had never existed.
Fortunately, the young Liu Xifen and her sister were adopted by the kind-hearted eldest lady and were able to enter the school for education. However, when Liu Xifen was 14 years old, Xiamen was occupied by the Japanese army, and the kind wife was also seriously ill and bedridden. Faced with the dual difficulties of her family and the country, Liu Xifen had to drop out of school and go home to make ends meet by sewing clothes for others.
Although unable to continue her studies, Liu Xifen never gave up her thirst for knowledge. She is convinced that knowledge is the key to changing her destiny.
At the age of 16, Liu Xifen was admitted to a charity called "Xiamen Bo'ai Hospital" as a nurse. Yet, in this self-proclaimed "charitable" institution, Japanese patients are treated very differently from Chinese patients.
The second floor is an elegant and state-of-the-art "superior" ward for Japanese patients, while the first floor is a "normal" area for Chinese patients, with a dimly lit and damp environment with rudimentary medical equipment. Faced with this stark contrast, Liu Xifen, who has been patriotic since childhood, resolutely applied to go to the first floor to care for Chinese patients.
In 1942, an incident broke out in Xiamen where patriots attacked the puppet army, and many patriotic young people were arrested and imprisoned in the Boai Yuan. After learning the news, Liu Xifen was anxious and began to do her best to rescue those compatriots who were in dire straits.
Late one night, Liu Xifen quietly sneaked into the place where patriots were being held. Taking advantage of the fact that there was no one around, she jumped up and crawled through the window into the ward. Seeing those scarred patriots, she was distressed and said softly: "The organization will come to rescue you, I salute you!"
Subsequently, Liu Xifen worked closely with the underground party organization and successfully rescued those patriots from the clutches of the Japanese army.
Due to her outstanding performance, Liu Xifen became a Communist Party member with honor and devoted herself to the revolutionary cause.
In 1949, the revolutionary situation in Xiamen was extremely grim. The underground party organization planned to move the revolutionary youth to a safe area overnight, and Liu Xifen was also on the transfer list. However, at the critical moment, Liu Xifen stepped forward: "You withdraw first, and I will stay behind." ”
Unfortunately, it didn't take long for Liu Xifen to be captured by the enemy due to the betrayal of the traitor. The enemy tempted: "As long as you are willing to tell the information of the underground party, I will let you go immediately." Liu Xifen treated her coldly, spat a mouthful, and responded with a sneer: "No way!"
Seeing this, the enemy became angry and inflicted cruel punishments such as tiger chairs, chili pepper water, and whipping on Liu Xifen. However, Liu Xifen has always been tight-lipped and unyielding.
The enemy was furious and prepared to escort Liu Xifen to the execution ground. Just then, the rumbling of cannon could be heard in the distance. Liu Xifen stood on tiptoe, her eyes flashing with hope, and she shouted excitedly: "It's almost dawn!"
She knows very well that the People's Liberation Army is coming. However, unfortunately, she could not wait for the arrival of the People's Liberation Army and was strangled by the cruel enemy at the foot of Hongshan Mountain. That year, she was only 25 years old.
