Marriage inspection used to be a mandatory item
The marriage inspection system in mainland China was implemented on 1 June 1995. The regulations are reinforced and promulgated through the "Regulations on the Administration of Marriage Registration" and the "Maternal and Infant Health Care Law of the People's Republic of China", which require both men and women to have a premarital medical examination certificate or a medical appraisal certificate at the time of marriage registration before they can register their marriage.
