According to the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Department, a rare ultra-long squall line of about 600 kilometers long quickly swept across the entire Guangdong Province today. On the radar chart, the squall line is a vivid status quo or banded echo. The squall line is a strong convective cloud belt formed by the arrangement of multiple thunderstorm cells, which is highly destructive, and can often cause serious disasters due to strong winds, rain and hail during transit.
In the early hours of the morning, the squall line formed in Guangxi, sweeping from west to east at a speed of about 60 kilometers per hour. In the morning, it has affected Zhaoqing, Yunfu and Yangjiang in Guangdong, and arrived in Guangzhou around 11 o'clock and swept quickly, bringing a short-term large-scale heavy storm and severe weather.

From 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. on April 18, under the combined influence of the upper-air trough and shear line, a strong convective weather process of 8-11 thunderstorms and strong winds and short-term heavy precipitation occurred in most parts of Nanning City, Guangxi. The maximum gust of wind occurred at 30.3 m/s (level 11) in Xu Xiake Park, Shanglin Mingliang Town (Shanglin National Meteorological Station site), breaking through the historical extreme value of the station.
Moderate to heavy rain occurred in the whole city of Nanning, with localized heavy rain. The heaviest rainfall occurred in Luowei Town, Wuming District, 71.7 mm. According to the data of Guangxi 3D Lightning Monitoring Network, from 8 o'clock on April 17 to 8 o'clock on the 18th, there were 126479 flashes in Guangxi (54,734 cloud flashes, 71,745 cloud and ground flashes), of which 20,241 lightning flashes occurred in Nanning.
