1. TCD foaming test to find out the real culprit

2. What is the foaming experiment?
The TCD foaming test, also known as the transcranial Doppler foaming test (C-TCD), is a medical examination method used to detect patent foramen ovale (PFO) in the heart.
This is done by bolus injection of mixed saline containing tiny bubbles in a vein in the patient's elbow, which should normally be absorbed in the pulmonary circulation, but if a bubble signal is detected in the blood vessels of the patient's brain, a right-to-left shunt is indicated in the heart, which is typical of patent foramen ovale.
What is patent foramen ovale?
Patent foramen ovale refers to a physiological passage called foramen ovale in the atrial septum of the fetal heart during the embryonic period, which will generally be closed about 2 months after birth, if it is more than 1 year old and has not reached a closed state, it is called patent foramen ovale, which is a relatively common congenital heart disease that occurs in adulthood, and about 1/4 of adults suffer from this disease.
3. Who needs to do foaming experiments?
The foaming test is suitable for a variety of people, including young people with unexplained stroke, migraine, transient ischemic attack or asymptomatic cerebral infarction, patients with unexplained syncope, patients with decompression sickness, divers or astronauts, and follow-up after patent foramen ovale closure.
