Originally, Huawei had to use Qualcomm chips, but now with self-developed Kirin, Qualcomm Snapdragon chips are no longer needed.
The current situation is actually due to the chip restrictions imposed by the United States. Otherwise, we still believe in globalization as much as before, Huawei also handed over chips to TSMC to OEM, and our companies are still buying foreign chips.
Nowadays, our enterprises have completely awakened and can no longer blindly rely on imported foreign chips, because maybe when people will restrict them, the consequences will be more serious, so we have begun to build an independent industrial chain in an all-round way.
The expansion of the mainland wafer fabs led by SMIC has been accelerated, and the chip production capacity has been continuously improved, laying the foundation for chip substitution.
With the continuous improvement of chip capabilities, we have the capital to replace foreign chips, so the action begins.
Recently, according to the Wall Street Journal, the relevant departments of the mainland have issued instructions to domestic communication operators, requiring them to comprehensively inspect the "non-domestic" chips in their network equipment, and also require them to complete domestic substitution as soon as possible.
There has been similar news before, and the content is to require major telecom operators to gradually complete the plan to fully replace foreign chips by 2027. Once this happens, I am afraid that Intel, Chaowei Semiconductor and other American chip giants will lose a lot.
Although the news comes from the American media, I am afraid it is not groundless, and the communication industry is an important basic equipment, and there will definitely be potential safety hazards in the use of foreign chips.
Not only that, the British media "Financial Times" also said that the mainland has issued an important policy, that is, departments at all levels must replace domestic computers, equipped with domestic processors, and use local operating systems by 2024.
That is, Loongson, Feiteng, Zhaoxin, Huawei Kunpeng, Shenwei, Haiguang, etc., have replaced the CPUs of American companies Intel and AMD.
Regarding the substitution of domestic computers, we do have relevant requirements, stipulating that enterprises that meet the security conditions can apply for shortlisting, but at present, all the shortlisted companies are domestic processor companies, and American companies such as Intel and AMD have not been shortlisted.
I am afraid that this is a situation that the US side does not want to see, but domestic substitution is no longer stoppable. Biden probably didn't expect that they tried every means to implement chip restrictions and suppress and sanction our Chinese companies, but as a result, American chip companies were counterattacked.
