When graduating from middle school in the early summer of 1926, the graduation message written by a classmate named Si Zhao to Li Gongpu was: "Jiaziqiu, Jun transferred to this school from Zhijiang, and the classmates were excellent in character and learning, enthusiastic in service, and highly respected. Therefore, from the beginning of the Yichou May Incident, the public was represented by the Shanghai Student Association, the Changgong League, and the leaders of the masses. The order of the syndicates depends on it. The speaker said that the courage and insight of the gentleman to do things are really outstanding. It can be seen that Li Gongpu, as a middle school student, exerted no less energy in the May Day Movement than the seniors of the University Department of Hujiang University.

Li Gongpu experienced the test of blood and fire in the May Day Movement and won the admiration of the whole school. In the public affairs of Hujiang University, he also had the courage to take on heavy responsibilities and played a backbone role.

In the early days of Hujiang University, the library's collection mainly came from donations from all walks of life, and its reference books, especially Chinese books, were quite scarce. In the fall of 1925, the then senior launched a "campaign to expand Chinese books." Later, the movement was responded to by the whole school, developed into a school-wide movement, and established the General Affairs Committee of the Expansion of Chinese Book Movement, which planned to raise funds among teachers, students, parents and alumni in Shanghai in the 1925-1926 academic year. At that time, the chairman of the General Affairs Committee of the "Movement to Expand Chinese Books" was Zhang Wenchang, a fourth-year student, and Li Gongpu, a third-year senior high school, served as vice chairman.

After the end of the fundraising for the Chinese Book Movement in May of the following year, Li Gongpu served as the chairman of the Aftermath Committee of the Chinese Book Movement, responsible for the custody and use of the fundraising. According to the records of Volume 15, Issue 15 of Tian Lai published on June 16, 1926, 1,497 yuan had been raised at that time, which was deposited in the Zhejiang Industrial Bank to earn interest and prepare for the purchase of the Siku Quanshu to be published by the Commercial Press.

In March 1926, the news of the "March 18 Massacre" came from Beijing, and the students of Hujiang University held a memorial service, and Li Gongpu was one of the organizers. There was a detailed record of the event at the time: "On March 29, the Autonomous Association of the Autonomous Council specially asked the school authorities to suspend classes to mourn the martyrs who died in Beijing. All arrangements will be made by the Autonomous Council with four members of the preparatory committee. The meeting began at 1:30 p.m., and the university and high school students gathered in the university auditorium. At that time, the four walls of the auditorium were full of various groups, and the atmosphere was sad. After reading out the memorial message and reporting on the tragedy, Li Gongpu and other members of the autonomous council took the floor to express their opinions on the tragedy and introduced the details of the preparations for the memorial service.
