There are many legends and stories in Baiyangdian, and today we will talk about the Green Asparagus of Rongcheng, a specialty of Xiong'an.
Whenever people talk about Baiyangdian's special food, they talk about the deliciousness of fish and shrimp, the sweetness of lotus lotus, and then the diamond horn and water chestnut, but less mention asparagus.
Asparagus, also known as stone cypress, dragon whiskers, early spring young stems broke through the soil, because of the shape of the reed stem, shaped like a bamboo shoot, and named asparagus, not the meaning of reed buds.

Rongcheng green asparagus has the reputation of "the king of vegetables".
There are many varieties of asparagus on the market, common ones are white shoots and green shoots. During the growth process of asparagus, the tip of the shoot is exposed to the ground, and after photosynthesis, it appears green, which is called green asparagus; if the soil is covered to keep it from sunlight and keep it white, it is called white asparagus. Green asparagus has a unique fragrance, the taste is crisp and refreshing, and the nutritional value is higher, especially the content of vitamins, calcium and iron is higher than that of white asparagus. Therefore, white shoots are mostly used for processing canned food, while green asparagus is used for fresh food.
Asparagus is not the tender bud of a reed.
In 2004, Rongcheng County, Xiong'an New District, Hebei Province, was named "The Hometown of Asparagus in Hebei". Today, Rongcheng green asparagus has become a local geographical indication protection product.
There are many varieties of asparagus on the market.
Rongcheng County is flat, the soil is fertile, the rivers and canals are longitudinal, the sunshine is sufficient, and the four seasons are distinct... The unique geographical environment has achieved the characteristics of Rongcheng green asparagus with "complete body, straight body, all green color, fine and soft texture, crisp taste and fragrant flavor". In the season when fresh shoots are on the market, green asparagus is used as a nutritious side dish on the dinner table, with a crisp and tender texture and fragrant flavor, which can be used as a soup, or stir-fried, boiled, stewed, fried or cold mixed.
