With the Chinese fate of a century-old luxury brand, how does LEVC expand its territory in the Chinese market?

author:Dachehui

What will the car of the future look like? Maybe it's the ones that run on the ground and fly in the sky, and the ones that fly in the sky run on the ground.

On April 15, LEVC, a London electric vehicle company under Geely, held a "Time and Space Realm" L380 design aesthetic analysis meeting, exposing the interior design of the model for the first time. Inspired by the aerodynamic engineering design concept of the Airbus aircraft and similar to the name of the A380, the world's largest wide-body passenger aircraft, this model shows the market and consumers the correct way to open the aesthetic design of the new MPV on the basis of "space innovation".

So far, with the empowerment of Geelydo's brand strategy and new technical architecture, LEVC has also realized the evolution from the 1.0 stage M&A strategy to the 3.0 stage globalization strategy through the "Space Aesthetics" product, opening a new chapter of "Space Innovation".

X SPACE is the future of MPVs

Originating in London, England in 1908, LEVC has launched a series of classic models since its establishment 116 years ago. In 2013, LEVC was acquired by Geely Automobile and entered the 1.0 stage of strategic mergers and acquisitions, that is, LEVC took root in China and Geely started its globalization journey.

In 2017, LEVC built the UK's first electric vehicle factory in Coventry, introduced the Volvo SPA platform, and launched the newly developed TX series in 2018, which sold well in the UK and exported to the European Union, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, officially entering the 2.0 technology strategy stage, realizing the transformation of LEVC from a London taxi manufacturer to a high-end new energy taxi manufacturer.

In the brand 3.0 stage, LEVC accelerated the implementation of its globalization strategy and realized the global expansion of technology, and launched the world's first space-oriented technology architecture "SOA" in May last year to further upgrade its product lineup. The LEVC is the first high-end pure electric MPV under the SOA architecture, which focuses on making the land Airbus-like travel experience a reality.

In fact, MPV has been more and more recognized in the family travel scene in recent years, and the MPV market has also grown rapidly in the past two years, especially with the trend of new energy, including a new force, car companies, MPV new products emerge in an endless stream, and even a little dazzling for a while. But after the first year of the so-called new energy MPV, what kind of product is the most in line with consumer needs in the new energy MPV market?

At the design analysis meeting, Brett Boydell, the global chief designer of LEVC, proposed that the future should be the in-depth excavation and use of time and space, and become a carrier for people to express themselves, enjoy freedom, and taste life. Based on this, LEVC proposed the X SPACE product concept, which represents "infinite possibilities" empowered by technology, design and user experience. The L380 recreates luxury on top of the space, creating a "time and space realm" that is more in line with the aesthetics of consumers.

Space flexible "Land Airbus"

As the first model of the LEVC X SPACE, L380 HAS THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LUXURY SPACE, LARGE SPACE AND LINKED SPACE, AND IS KNOWN AS THE "LAND AIRBUS", WITH 3-8 SEATS OF FLEXIBLE SPACE AND ZERO-EMISSION LOW-CARBON TRAVEL, TO MEET THE DIVERSE NEEDS OF GLOBAL USERS FOR SPACE ON WHEELS.

In terms of appearance, the LEVC vehicle shape is elegant and round, using the popular closed front face and split headlight group, breaking through the traditional MPV design framework at the same time, but also incorporating the aerodynamic engineering design concept of the Airbus, three-section LED light strip, with a suspended roof, large area of privacy glass, so that the overall style is more sci-fi.

In terms of interior, the main instrument panel of the L380 cockpit is inspired by the scattered rock formations, bringing users a sense of security embraced by nature, while the sub-instrument panel with floating design, the roof with patio design elements, and the 2.18 square meter large area of the canopy not only beautify the overall visual effect of the cabin, but also bring users a wider driving vision and a more comfortable driving experience. In addition, the interior of the cockpit is also full of ingenuity, such as the Chinese Ruyi-shaped air vents, which incorporate the meteor shower pattern in the shape of Tower Bridge and Big Ben in London, England, which is compatible with Chinese and Western characteristics.

Space is a highlight of LEVC, the length, width and height of LEVC are 5316mm/1998mm/1940mm, wheelbase is 3185mm, the interior continues the LEVC space innovation concept, each row is equipped with independent aviation seats, users can sit and lie freely, can switch the most comfortable sitting position at will, bringing users a first-class experience.

In addition, L380 also solves the pain points of drivers and passengers for ride comfort, most of the MPVs on the market at present adopt compromise design, to ensure the comfort of the second row, the space of the third row will be sacrificed, and privacy also gives priority to the second row, L380 breaks the convention, with its 75% cabin rate, showing far beyond the same level of excellent passability. The width of the passenger compartment aisle reaches an industry-leading 200mm, ensuring the unimpeded passage of passengers and cargo, and improving the comfortable riding experience of all passengers.

In this "Time and Space Realm" L380 Design Aesthetics Analysis Conference, LEVC also introduced the technical cornerstone of L380 - space-oriented architecture SOA.

Specifically, SOA supports ultra-long architecture bandwidth, wheelbase up to 3000mm-3800mm, can realize front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive multiple drive forms, easily meet the diversified development needs in the current market environment, in terms of intelligence, SOA architecture supports L2-L4 intelligent driving technology solutions, supercomputing platform computing power up to 1000+Tops, easy for intelligent vehicle development technology support. The spatial innovation ability of SOA architecture is more prominent. The space utilization rate of SOA architecture models can reach more than 75%, and the tail space can also be expanded to 163L, so the cabin space is promising.

It is reported that the future SOA architecture can also meet the needs of multi-model development, that is to say, the arrival of L380 marks the official entry of the platform and electrification of travel vehicles.
