The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, met with Deputy Procurator General Tong Kin-ming, who is responsible for the day-to-day work of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, at the Central Government Headquarters on April 17, and exchanged views on issues such as the continuous cooperation between the Mainland and Macao in the judicial and legal fields, and the provision of high-level legal safeguards for the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

The Chief Executive welcomed the visit of Deputy Procurator General Tong Jianming and his delegation, and thanked the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Mainland procuratorial organs for their long-term strong support for the procuratorial work of the HKSAR. He said that the procuratorial organs of the Mainland and Macao have always maintained close contact and hoped that the good relations between them would continue to deepen and expand exchanges and cooperation in the judicial and legal fields. In order to expand Macao's sustainable development space and optimize its industrial structure, the SAR Government is making great efforts to promote the development of the In-depth Cooperation Zone. The integrated development of Macao and the Co-operation Zone, and the gradual success of the construction of the Co-operation Zone in connection with Macao and commercial rules and the international system are inseparable from the care and support of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, especially under the principle of "one country, two systems", which provides a high-quality legal guarantee for the construction of the In-depth Cooperation Zone, and effectively ensures industrial development and improves people's livelihood and well-being on this solid foundation.

Deputy Procurator General Tong Jianming said that his visit to Macao was to attend the "57th Executive Committee Meeting of the International Association of Public Prosecutors" hosted by the Macao SAR Procuratorate. He pointed out that in the nearly 25 years since Macao's return to the motherland, under the leadership of the SAR Government and successive chief executives, the principle of "one country, two systems" has been successfully put into practice in Macao, and Macao has made remarkable achievements in economic development, social stability, and the building of the rule of law. The Supreme People's Procuratorate fully and accurately and unswervingly implements the principle of "one country, two systems", and will continue to support the Macao SAR in building itself into a platform for procuratorial cooperation in Portuguese-speaking countries and regions. He hoped that through the joint efforts of the judicial authorities of the Macao SAR and the Mainland, the rule of law protection for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the In-depth Cooperation Zone would be carried out, and a safe, stable, mutually beneficial and win-win living and business environment would be created for the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area and the In-depth Cooperation Zone.

Also present at the meeting were Ye Xunsheng, chief procurator of the Macao SAR Procuratorate, and Tam Bingtang, director of the Office of the Procurator General; Cao Hua, deputy director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Supreme People's Procuratorate; Ruan Jianhua, a cadre of the General Office of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and secretary to Deputy Procurator General Tong Jianming; and Hong Jinping, a cadre of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
