This year's Chinese New Year is really different for me. Especially when it comes to drinking, every family holds a festive banquet in the usual tradition, where family and friends gather to drink and talk, and laughter is endless. But this year, I attended five drinking parties and found that the number of people drinking was significantly reduced.
The first drinking party was on the night of the first day of the Lunar New Year, and I was invited to my friend Xiao Ming's house. Xiao Ming's parents are a hospitable couple who hold a grand banquet every Chinese New Year. This year, however, is a little different. At the banquet, only a few male guests raised their glasses, while the women were more inclined to chat and drink tea. Xiao Ming explained that this year, everyone has started to pay attention to their health and stop drinking excessively.
The second drinking party was held in the village of his hometown, where the family gathered for a reunion dinner. My grandparents have always liked to drink with their families, but this year they decided to drink less. My grandfather told me that they had recently seen a promotion about quitting alcohol on TV and realized the harm of excessive drinking to their bodies, so they decided to pay attention to their health from now on.
The third wine party was at the dinner party of the unit, and the boss specially organized a wine banquet to celebrate the New Year. However, unlike previous years, this year everyone drank very little. Some people choose to drink a drink, and some people don't touch a glass at all. A colleague told me that he had been working out at the gym recently and wanted to stay fit, so he didn't dare to drink too much.
The fourth drinking party was at a small party at a friend's house. The friends sat together, singing and dancing, and the atmosphere was very lively. However, if you look closely, the wine glasses in everyone's hands are empty or there is only a trace of wine left. A friend told me that he had recently started to focus on wellness and didn't want to indulge in alcohol anymore.
The fifth session was at a health club where a friend invited me to work out. After the workout, everyone sat around and chatted with a glass of water or juice. Friends told me that a healthy lifestyle should include moderate exercise and a moderated diet, and that alcohol should not be a part of life.
Through these drinking sessions, I deeply felt the importance that people attach to health. In the past, we used to drink alcohol for pleasure, but now, people pay more attention to their health and quality of life.
