Preface

"If there is heaven, then heaven should be what a library looks like. "If Borges said, one of the most beautiful breaths in the world must be bookishness.

So, what kind of breath is bookishness?

Under the "one breath", the Yangcheng Evening News Art Research Institute has held four consecutive bookish exhibitions, and will continue to do so.

The aesthetic issues of calligraphy, painting, its core, spirit, individuality, commonality, interest, contemporaneity, etc., are infinitely extendable cultural topics, which are worthy of our continuous inquiry, pursuit, questioning, exploration, and exploration.

Since the first edition of the 2022 Book Air Exhibition, we have brought the Book Air Exhibition from the city to the countryside, aiming to collide and integrate the book air with the ancient charm of the countryside and the atmosphere of the mountains and forests, so as to make it more vibrant and keep pace with the times.

The authors of the exhibition are not only professional painters, calligraphers, but also scholars and cultural people, as well as the works of Chen Li, Lai Shaoqi, Lu Yanshao, Jao Tsung-i, Wang Guichen, Wu Guanzhong, Zhu Xinjian and other famous masters, presenting the rich core and rich physiognomy of the bookish atmosphere.

The period of books is endless, like the bloom of spring.

Question: What is "bookish atmosphere"? Please answer in one sentence.

Zhang Wei: It is the external manifestation of elegant temperament and good quality.

Question: The ancients said: Calligraphy and painting should be a rhyme. What is the rhyme?

Zhang Wei: In order to answer the question, I studied Baidu.

Question: What is your ideal "bookish atmosphere"? Please cite one or two typical cases.

Zhang Wei: If you can have a slow life of leisure and leisure, you can learn from the ancients to improve yourself.

Question: When looking at all things, when "reflexively and sincerely", will "bookishness" exalt its "sincerity", or will it obscure its "sincerity"?

Zhang Wei: It's hard to say, it varies from person to person.

Question: Jiang Kuiyan said: "The text works with the text, not the text." However, there is no good thing. "The reason why "bookish atmosphere" can arouse your aesthetic feelings, is because of what kind of rules and characteristics of the combination of forms?

Zhang Wei: I don't know if there are similar rules and characteristics to the often said "from the impossible to the law" and then from the "there is the law to the lawless".

Question: "The beauty of poetry is vague, and the realism is not spectacular", is the same for "bookishness"?

Zhang Wei: Is it a bit similar to the meaning of "rare and confused"?

Question: In Dream of Red Mansions, Baoyu distinguishes everything in the world by "Qing" and "turbidity", can "bookish qi" replace "Qing"? Which word can represent "turbidity"?

Zhang Wei: The contrast between "clear" and "turbid" is called the "water metaphor", and in "Dream of Red Mansions", it is used as a metaphor for human nature, but can human nature stand the test?

Q: In terms of art, what is the ideal world you are pursuing, and is it related to "bookishness"?

Zhang Wei: I'm afraid that the pursuit of too much idealism will make me too tired.

Q: Does bookishness affect your creative state, and how?

Zhang Wei: Just follow the fate.

Q: Is the epochal or transcendent importance of "bookish atmosphere"?

Zhang Wei: Maybe it's all important.
