Mr Lee also praised the Hong Kong Police Force as an important force in safeguarding Hong Kong and safeguarding national security, pointing out that in the face of many difficulties and challenges, the Force has continued to do its duty, unite as one, eradicate violence and maintain peace and order, and strive to uphold law and order and protect the public.

To commemorate the 180th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Police Force in 1844, a logo has been designed to commemorate the 180th anniversary. After the Open Day Parade, a time capsule sealing ceremony was held, in which the Force management sealed the commemorative items and moved them to the Police Headquarters for preservation until the 200th anniversary, i.e. 20 years later, in the hope of witnessing the inheritance of the Force's professionalism with the public.

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the overall concept of national security, and 15 April is the first National Security Education Day for the whole HKSAR after the completion of the enactment of Article 23 of the Basic Law.
In response to this major national security education event, various activities were staged one after another, including flag-raising ceremonies, open days for disciplined and auxiliary services, opening ceremonies for the National Security Education Day, and keynote lectures. At the same time, various types of activities will be held in the 18 districts of Hong Kong, including popular carnivals, sharing sessions, float parades, etc., and relevant bureaux and departments will also organise various activities to support the event.
In addition to the above-mentioned Open Day of the Hong Kong Police College, the Hong Kong Immigration Service College, the Hong Kong Correctional Services College and the Kai Tak Branch of the Hong Kong Flying Service also held an open day on the 13th, while the Hong Kong Customs College, the Fire and Ambulance Services College, the Civil Aid Service Headquarters and the Auxiliary Medical Service Headquarters were opened on the 14th.
Various activities will be held at the Open Day, including flag-raising ceremonies, Chinese-style foot drill demonstrations, tactical or rescue drills, virtual reality experiences, etc., to let the public know about the work done by the units to prevent and resist national security risks, so as to enhance the public's awareness of national security and law-abiding.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that the HKSAR Government Flying Service has participated in this series of open day activities. According to statistics, the open day attracted more than 1,600 members of the public to visit the Kai Tak Branch of the GFS.

Class 3 fire in Wah Fung Building Mak Mei Juan: It is the responsibility of the owner to comply with the fire safety instructions
A level 3 fire broke out in Wah Fung Building, Jordan, Hong Kong on the 10th, killing 5 people and injuring 40 people. As of 10 a.m. on the 13th, five of them were still in critical condition, and one injured person who was in serious condition at Princess Margaret Hospital was stabilized. It was revealed that the building had received a "fire safety directive" but had not complied with it for many years. Hong Kong Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Mak Mei-kuen pointed out on the 13th that there are many high-rise commercial and residential buildings in Yau Tsim Mong, and assisting in repair and maintenance is a long-term problem, and the current SAR government has taken relevant measures, including assisting the establishment of a corporation for three-nil buildings, helping to find different service providers, and setting up an inter-departmental team to follow up the progress of building inspection and maintenance.

As for the operation of a number of licensed guesthouses in the buildings involved, Mak Mei-kuen said that the conditions for the licensing of hotels are that they must comply with fire safety and submit fire safety certificates every year, and the SAR Government will also conduct spot checks, and if violations are found, they will require corrections, otherwise the licences will be cancelled.
She said that the HKSAR Government would review the number of hotel rooms according to the escape facilities of the buildings and considered that the licensing arrangements were strict. As to whether there is a need to amend the legislation to consider the fire safety status of the entire building when applying for a licence for a guesthouse, she believes that there is a need for discussion in the community, and it also involves the management of the building, and the HKSAR Government will take action in different aspects.
