School shootings are not uncommon in the United States. According to a survey recently released by the Pew Research Center in the United States, more than half of American teachers worry about campus safety every day at work.

The Pew Research Center surveyed about 2,500 U.S. teachers from Oct. 17 to Nov. 14 and found that more than half (59 percent) of teachers were "more or less worried" about a possible shooting at their school, including 18 percent who were "extremely or very concerned" about a shooting. Only 7 per cent of teachers said they were "not at all worried".

The survey found that about four in ten (39 percent) teachers said their schools were doing "fair or poor" training and preparation for potential shootings, and about three in ten said their schools were doing "very good or very good" in responding to potential shooters.

The survey also found that in the 2022-2023 school year, 31% of teachers in U.S. urban schools, 19% of teachers in suburban schools, and 20% of teachers in rural schools experienced school lockdowns related to gun incidents.

According to the U.S. School Shootings Database, there were 912 school shootings in the U.S. between 2021 and 2023, the most in the database's 40-year history.

According to a recent report by Time magazine in the United States, since the beginning of this year, there have been at least 50 school shootings in the United States, resulting in 16 deaths.

Tennessee, USA, passed a bill on the 10th local time to allow some faculty and staff to carry weapons on campus.

But according to a Pew Research Center survey, seven out of ten teachers believe it's not the answer to gun violence in schools, 69 percent believe that increased mental health screening and treatment for children and adults can help prevent shootings, and about half of respondents say that increased police or campus security is "very effective."

A study conducted by the RAND Corporation last year also found that more than half of teachers believe that staff carrying guns actually makes schools less safe.
