South Georgia is often referred to as the 'Serengeti of the Southern Ocean', and it's easy to see why you're seeing tens of millions of king penguins, seals and seabirds. As we sail along South Georgia's leeward coastline, you'll be amazed by the stunning mountain scenery, vast expanses of glaciers and icebergs, rich intertwined histories and an incredible amount of wildlife.
The landing site has giant elephant seals, aggressive fur seals, Gentoo penguins, albatrosses, petrels, skuas and gulls. You can also see thousands of king penguins, from fluffy baby penguins to chubby adult penguins. We will visit the historic Gulidviken Whaling Station, the Whaling Museum, the Norwegian Seamen's Church, the active British Antarctic Survey Station, and the memorial cemetery of the great Antarctic explorer Ernest.

We will explore many picturesque bays and famous landing sites, sail through wildlife-rich waters, and witness the majestic strait. As we sail along the rugged coastline, get a good look at different species of penguins, seals, and whales, and have the chance to stop at several active scientific bases and historic landing sites. Our expedition leader and captain will make the best expedition plan based on the weather, ice conditions, waves, etc. implemented.
Landing sites may include the picturesque Port of Nacque, the sheltered haven of Haven, the Gulf of Wilhelmina, the striking Le Maire Strait, the Panola Passage teeming with a variety of wildlife, or the majestic Lima Waterway. Cannell penguins and Gentoo penguins can be spotted everywhere, and Weddell, crab-eating and elephant seals can often be seen resting with predatory leopard seals and ferocious Antarctic fur sea lions. Various baleen whales and humpback whales are frequent visitors in the later season.
