According to Volkswagen China's official WeChat news, on April 11, Volkswagen China announced that as one of the key measures of the "In China, for China" strategy, it will invest 2.5 billion euros (currently about 19.4 billion yuan) to further expand the production and innovation center in Hefei, strengthen local R&D strength, and accelerate the production of two Volkswagen brand smart electric models jointly developed by the group and Xpeng Motors, the first of which is a mid-size SUV, which is scheduled to be put into production in 2026.

Volkswagen said that the new models in cooperation with Xpeng will accelerate the electrification of its product matrix in China, and that the group's brands will offer more than 30 pure electric models in the Chinese market by 2030, and Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd. in Hefei is developing the group's first electric vehicle architecture (CMP) specifically for the Chinese market, and the group will develop no less than four electric models for the compact entry market from 2026.

According to the latest global delivery data disclosed by the Volkswagen Group on April 10, in the first quarter of 2024, Volkswagen delivered 2.1 million vehicles worldwide - a year-on-year increase of 3%, 1.97 million fuel vehicles - a year-on-year increase of 4%, and 136,400 pure electric vehicles (BEV) deliveries - a year-on-year decrease of 3%.

According to Volkswagen, the main growth drivers came from China (up 8%), South America (up 14%) and North America (up 5%).

Among them, deliveries in Europe were basically the same as last year (-0.3% to 906,700 units), battery electric vehicles (BEV) were down 24% (74,400 units), North American deliveries increased by 5% (227,100 units), South America deliveries increased by 14% (118,500 units), overall deliveries in the Asia-Pacific region increased by 5% (764,800 units), and deliveries in China were 693,600 units - up 8% year-on-year, including 41,000 pure electric models - 91% year-on-year.
