After the publication of "Rediscovering Jingdezhen", the future vision map is still often asked: why Jingdezhen?

Our answer remains the same, and we share this set of city selection methodology with you again:

1. It should have its own cultural context of "why it has developed this way".

2. Its inhabitants have a sense of pride in their city and are able to name what makes their city different.

3. The city does have a distinctive "brand image".

The first two points are good to say, and city brands may be confusing. It's not just a simple relationship between Tianshui and Malatang, Harbin and the "Ice and Snow World", but how a city makes us feel different.

●March 23rd – We held our first book sharing session at the Tsutaya Bookstore in Shanghai, inviting two guests who witnessed Jingdezhen's "Internet celebrity": Yang Yingqing, CEO of Shanghai/Jingdezhen Lotte Pottery Society, and Chen Xiyu, head of the content of the Land Art Festival's "Art in Fuliang" project.

Our second round of book sharing will be held at Qianqian Bookstore in Shenzhen. This time, we will not only share our observations on Jingdezhen's urban brand power, but also introduce local perspectives to talk about Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Many young people go to Jingdezhen to dream of becoming "Jingpiao", and Jingdezhen also has an industrial chain that supports the entire "floating" system, and the porcelain-making technology inherited from Jingdezhen is the foundation for realizing the entire system. But technology alone is far from enough, which is one of the reasons why many people feel "disconnected" after visiting Jingdezhen. Therefore, perhaps you can summarize the city brand power of Jingdezhen from our observations and conclusions, what has it achieved, what has it overlooked, and where do we need to make more efforts? This will also have a good reference for other cities.

Similar to the "Jingpiao" in Jingdezhen today, Shenzhen also has the keyword of "deep drifting", a city with the color of dreaming. It carries the dreams of many people, and at the same time, Shenzhen also needs to develop its own urban charm, and the "Nantou Old Town" project is one of them. We will invite Han Jing, curator of the Nantou Ancient City Sub-exhibition of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, Nanshan District, to talk about her feelings.

"Nantou Ancient Town is the oldest ancient city and the most charming urban village in Shenzhen. Behind the sophisticated shops on Main Street, you'll find surprises all the time. The deepest impression is a longan tree that grows from the base of the city wall, which is wrapped in houses by the villagers, and the longan tree actually bears fruit every year. This is the wild wisdom of urban villages, which deserve to be respected as much as the history of Nantou Old Town in future urban renewal. ”

At the same time, Hong Kong, which is close to Shenzhen, belongs to the same ecological and cultural circle of the Greater Bay Area, and has recently taken many measures to show the new charm of the city. In February 2024, Future Vision studied Hong Kong's Central Market. This is an urban renewal project that has attracted much attention in Hong Kong in recent years, and behind it is the struggle between academics, the public, the government and real estate developers.

Hong Kong is no longer a shopping destination. According to Jones Lang LaSalle's Hong Kong Retail Market Report released in October 2023, mainland tourists are more eager to visit local communities and taste special food. People want to know more stories, get involved.

This time, we have invited Tsui Cheuk-wah, who is involved in the Central Market and a number of historic building preservation and revitalisation projects, to discuss with us how to revitalize Central's design language and cultural context in the context of Hong Kong, and realize the reshaping of the city's brand.

"The Central Market, starting from the livelihood market at the foot of Victoria Victoria Hill more than 100 years ago, has experienced decay and controversy in the middle, and has been reborn after a hundred years, and has returned to a popular 'civic playground market'. It is a mirror that reflects the transformation of the people, business circles and the government in the past ten years to preserve historical and cultural public buildings, and also reflects a small scenery in the future development of the city. ”
