In 2010, He Shuai came to Nanjing from Huainan, Anhui Province, first to study, and then to settle down to work.
When his father He Ming was diagnosed with lung cancer, He Shuai was not with his father, and he rushed back to Huainan after hearing the news, which he and his mother found it difficult to accept, "because I think that cancer is very far away from us, and sometimes I just see it on TV or on the news, and I don't think it will happen to me." ”
He Ming has an upright personality and likes to act bravely, he did a lot of work when he was young, served as the executive general manager of the enterprise, and later was responsible for community housing safety, fire protection and other things in the Huainan Housing Management Office.
He was tall, didn't smoke, didn't drink much, and didn't have any bad habits. In April 2016, he had symptoms such as difficulty breathing, frequent cough, and blood in his sputum, and at first thought it was just a simple cough and fever, so he hung some water in the community hospital, but it did not improve, and then went to the First People's Hospital of Huainan City accompanied by his wife, and took a film, "I found that the whole lung had become white, and the lungs were full of fluid." ”
Doctors examined him further and diagnosed him with advanced lung cancer, and determined that he could have up to three months to live.
After his diagnosis, his condition deteriorated rapidly and he collapsed in less than a week. When he was young, He Ming also played basketball and took his son He Shuai to swim, which was generally more casual and did not focus on a certain sport. After he decided to run a marathon, he waited for his family to leave every day, and then secretly exercised in the hospital, first walking in the ward, then climbing the stairs, jogging in the corridor, his body actually improved, and he could walk without holding on to the railing, so he gradually increased his exercise.
He was discharged from the hospital after 10 months, exercising at home without his wife, and at the same time cooperating with the doctor's treatment, his physical and mental state is getting better and better.
In 2017, he participated in the Huainan International Half Marathon and successfully completed it in 2 hours and 19 minutes.
Since then, he has been carrying a bag on his back and competing all over the country. His wife didn't dare to accompany him, because she was worried about his condition, so she didn't support him to run, for fear of seeing him injured.

Later, when he participated in the competition, he would hold a small flag in his hand, "just to let others notice him in the crowd and not touch him." In 2019, He Ming participated in the 6-day and 6-night ultramarathon global extreme race in Xiamen, running a total of 421.82 kilometers. The last marathon he participated in was also in Xiamen, it was January 5, 2020, which happened to be his 58th birthday, and it was his 61st marathon. Like many marathon enthusiasts, his goal is to run 100 marathons.

On November 30, 2020, He Shuai participated in the first marathon in Nanjing, which was also the 62nd marathon of their father and son. Because I hadn't run before, and I had an old injury, my knee was very uncomfortable, and it was really difficult to persevere in the second half of the race, "I kept thinking about it in the second half of the race, my father had been battling the disease all the time, and I could run through the pain and I could." The day after the race, He Shuai went to the hospital for examination and prepared for surgery to repair the anterior fork ligament, "The doctor did not recommend me to run, because my knee joint stability is relatively poor. In January 2021, He Shuai underwent surgery, and after slowly recovering, he tried to run little by little. The leg he had surgery on was a little weaker than the other, and the thickness of the two legs was not the same. Because I'm tall and weighy, I don't really want speed, as long as I can finish the race safely and healthy. ”

Because he is usually busy with work, he mainly chooses to participate in the race around Nanjing, and he went to run the Xiamen Marathon, because it has a special meaning to He Ming, and his last marathon is in Xiamen. Now He Shuai runs every day, and when he gets home from work, it may be eight or nine o'clock in the evening, and he will still go out for a run of 5 to 10 kilometers. On weekends, if you have time, run 10 to 15 kilometers.
