Meta today announced a series of new features to Facebook Messenger. First, you can now send HD Photos in Messenger by selecting the image you want to send, then turn on the HD toggle and tap Send.

Support for HD photos recently appeared in WhatsApp, and it's great to see that another of Meta's big messaging apps is finally catching up. The HD photos you receive in Messenger will have an "HD" tag in the top right corner, so you know your eyes are not wrong.

Next, you can create shared albums with friends and family to add photos and videos. To create such an album, select multiple photos in a group chat, then tap Create album (or long-press a photo in a chat and tap Create Album). To add photos and videos to an existing album, tap Add to Album. Of course, you can also rename the album as needed.

Everyone in the group chat can view, add, delete, and download all the pictures and videos in the shared album. To go to the shared album of chats, tap on the group chat name and then tap on Media, where you can see them. This feature will be available in the coming weeks.

Now, you can add people on Messenger using QR codes. Everyone has one, and you can scan it to add others, or share your QR code via a link.

Finally, Messenger has raised the file size limit – now you can send files up to 100MB. All major formats are supported, including Word, PDF, Excel, and zip, which has been a noticeably missing feature, so this is definitely a case of "better late than never".
