Qi Baishi and I PK painted cherries: a bowl of soaked in water is not as good as a bowl of leftovers, and it was sold for 1.95 million
One sunny afternoon, I sat in a corner of the studio with a paintbrush in my hand and a bowl of brightly colored cherries in front of me. I gaze at these cherries, trying to capture their beauty and vitality on the canvas. I'm a young painter and I'm already a big name in the field, but I've always wanted to break through and create something that really touches people's hearts.
On this day, I had a whim, and I wanted to challenge the classic work of painting cherries, Qi Baishi's "Cherry Picture". The cherries written by Mr. Qi Baishi are both vivid and expressive, and each one seems to leap onto the paper, which is mouth-watering. I wanted to see if I, a young man, could draw a different cherry in my own way.
I started wielding the brush, trying to incorporate my understanding and feelings about cherries into the painting. I drew a bowl of cherries soaked in water, and the water drops and the cherries look tender and dripping. I looked at my work with satisfaction, and felt that although it was different from Qi Baishi's style, it also had a unique charm.
However, just then, an unexpected thing happened. A friend of mine, who is an art collector, saw my painting and offered to buy it for 1.95 million. I was shocked, I couldn't believe my ears. How can a work that I thought was just an exercise fetch such a high price?
I excitedly told my family and friends and they were all happy for me. However, a subtle change began to take place in my heart. I began to think, what is the value of this painting, is it because it inherits Qi Baishi's classics, or is it because of my own innovation and hard work?
In the days that followed, I immersed myself in the joy of creation, and at the same time began to reflect on my own artistic path. I started experimenting with different painting methods and styles, trying to find my own artistic language. I painted a bowl of leftover cherries, those cherries that had been bitten, although no longer perfect, revealed a kind of authenticity and vividness.
The painting caused a sensation again. People marvel at how I capture details and express emotions. This time, I have strengthened my belief that the value of art lies not in imitation, but in innovation and authenticity. I am grateful to Mr. Qi Baishi for the inspiration he has brought to me, but I also understand that true art needs me to interpret and express it in my own way.
Nowadays, whenever I pick up a paintbrush, I think of those two bowls of cherries. One bowl is soaked in water, crystal clear, like a fairyland, and the other bowl is leftovers, imperfect but full of truth. They are all milestones on my artistic path, reminding me to maintain my love and pursuit of art, and at the same time, to maintain my perception and understanding of real life.
Friends, when you stand at the crossroads of life, confused and overwhelmed, you might as well stop, look at the small things around you, and find your own inspiration and motivation from them. Perhaps, it is those seemingly insignificant things that can light up your life path and lead you to a better future.
Thank you all for reading my story, and I hope my experience can give you some inspiration and food for thought. Let's continue to explore and move forward on the road of art!
