His status is noble, his great-grandfather is the Daoguang Emperor, he himself is a collection of painting, calligraphy, guqin in one of the family, and two younger brothers Aixin Jueluo Pu Kang, Aixin Jueluo Pu Zuo are named after paintings, known as "one door and three masters". After the Xinhai Revolution, he was no longer involved in politics and made a living from calligraphy and painting.
In 1966, when the storm of the Cultural Revolution broke out, he ran away from home with his daughter on August 30. After that, no one knew where he went or where he died. His remains have not been traced to this day.
Pu Xuezhai (1893-1966) was a Manchu and the great-grandson of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty. His grandfather was the fifth son of the emperor, Prince Yiyi, and his father was Baylor Zaiying. In his early years, he was named "Beizi", his real name was Pu Ling, and his name was Xuezhai; He used to be the executive director of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the vice chairman of the Municipal Artists Association, the vice president of the Calligraphy Research Society, the honorary painter of the Beijing Fine Art Academy, the director of the Municipal Music Association, and the member of the Dongcheng District CPPCC. In 1952, he was hired as a librarian at the Beijing Research Institute of Culture and History.
He studied literature and art since childhood, and was good at guqin, sanxian, calligraphy and danqing. When he was a teenager, he studied under Jia Runfeng, a disciple of modern pianist Huang Mian. After the Xinhai Revolution, he made a living from calligraphy and painting, and he was good at painting landscapes, horses, and Molan. Calligraphy Mi Fu, Zhao Mengfu first-class, melt Mi Zhao in one, unique a strict and chic charm. He also organized the "Songfeng Painting Society" to study the art of Chinese painting and cultivated a large number of talents.
As early as 1930, he taught at the Department of Fine Arts of Fu Jen University, where he served as a professor and head of the department. At that time, because of a student's graduation and the school dispute, the priest in charge because the student was Catholic, so he spoke in a foreign language, and wanted to hide Pu Xuezhai from graduating the student, but Pu Xuezhai, who did not speak foreign languages, did not need to translate and heard the priest's words clearly, and immediately brushed his sleeves away, and the audience was stunned!
In the 40s, he established the Beijing Guqin Research Association with Zhang Boju and Guan Pinghu, which enabled the traditional ancient music to spread and develop, and served as the president of the association. In the fifties, he was invited many times to play the piano for Zhongnanhai. Today, we can still hear several of his piano pieces played in the "Old Eight Albums" disc produced by Wang Di back then.
After liberation, he actively participated in cultural exchange activities at home and abroad. His multifaceted artistic achievements have been highly praised and appreciated by people at home and abroad. In the fifties, the First National Congress of Literary and Art Workers was held, and Premier Zhou met Mr. Xuezhai at the meeting, asked him about his life and work with concern, and personally drove him home by car after the meeting.
In 1957, the Beijing Academy of Chinese Painting was established and he was hired as an honorary painter. Premier Zhou gave important instructions at the inaugural meeting of the Academy. After the meeting, when he took a group photo with all the participants, Premier Zhou walked up to him and stopped, and said humorously: "Let's have a Manchurian and Han party!" Once he was invited to Huairen Hall to entertain foreign guests at the theatrical evening to play the guqin, after the performance, Premier Zhou specially went backstage to thank him for his wonderful performance and congratulated him on the success of the performance.
On Pu Lao's 70th birthday, Vice Premier Chen Yi, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, invited him to a luncheon at the Ziguang Pavilion in Zhongnanhai to celebrate his birthday. He said to Vice Premier Chen with emotion: "I haven't done much work, and I can't talk about my achievements, and I feel deeply ashamed that the leader has given me such an honor." Chairman Zhu De also studied the art of calligraphy and painting with him many times in the Coca Ting in Beihai Painting Boat Zhai, and took a group photo.
At the beginning of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, Guqin professors at the Central Conservatory of Music, such as Zha Fuxi and Wu Jingluo, were all impacted. Pu Xuezhai, as the grandson of the emperor and the Manchu royal family, was naturally raided and criticized. Unable to bear the humiliation and pain, he ran away from home with his daughter on August 30. Since then, his situation has been like a Chu Anping in the guqin world, but Chu Anping disappeared when he was a rightist. And Pu Xuezhai disappeared in the famous "Red August" storm.
