Recently, the follow-up maintenance technical assistance project of the China-Malaysia Friendship Bridge in the Maldives was officially started, which was implemented by CCCC Second Harbor Bureau for a period of 36 months. The implementation content is mainly to carry out the initial repair and preventive maintenance of the China-Malaysia Friendship Bridge, improve the bridge maintenance files, carry out bridge inspection and evaluation, carry out daily maintenance of the bridge and train Malaysian maintenance technicians.

On March 20 this year, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin and Maldives Minister of Infrastructure Muttalib signed an agreement on the implementation of the follow-up maintenance technical assistance project for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge on behalf of China and Maldives. Officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China attended the signing ceremony.

According to the agreement signed between China and Malaysia, CCCC Second Harbor Bureau will be the implementation unit of the follow-up maintenance technical assistance project of the China-Malaysia Friendship Bridge in the Maldives. The project will form a series of intellectual achievements, including a set of bridge management system for bridge inspection, evaluation and maintenance, training a certain number of bridge maintenance technicians for Malaysia, and completing the initial inspection, daily inspection, regular inspection, regular inspection, special inspection, regular monitoring and regular measurement report within 3 years of the assistance cycle.

The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is a sea-crossing bridge jointly agreed between China and Maldives and built with China's assistance, connecting Malé, the capital of the Maldives, Airport Island and Hulhumale Island, which started construction in March 2016 and was completed and opened to traffic on August 30, 2018. The team of CCCC Second Harbor Bureau overcame the three major global problems of complex coral reef geology, deep-water long-period waves, high temperature, high salt and high corrosiveness, as well as a series of difficulties such as lack of materials, aviation height restrictions, and harsh environment, and realized the "bridge dream" of the Maldivian people within the 33-month construction period.

The follow-up maintenance technical assistance project for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge in Maldives was started

The project is a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Malaysia, which has effectively improved the transportation environment of residents in the three places connected by the bridge and promoted the economic development of the Malé region since its opening more than five years ago. The project won the China Construction Engineering Luban Award (Overseas Project).
