On April 8, according to a number of domestic media reports, a woman suffered from indigestion due to excessive consumption of five youth leagues a day.
The woman presented with an upset stomach and persistent hiccups, which did not resolve until the next day. After examination by a professional doctor, it was confirmed that she was suffering from functional dyspepsia, the main cause of which was attributed to excessive intake of Qingtuan. After receiving treatment, the patient's symptoms were eliminated.
Qingtuan, also known as mugwort, is a traditional delicacy in the Jiangnan region, dating back to the Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,000 years. This food is made by mixing wormwood juice with glutinous rice flour and wrapping it with sweet or salty fillings such as bean paste or minced meat. Its unique taste is sweet but not greasy, with a fresh and persistent aroma.
During the Qingming Festival, the Youth League is a traditional festival snack for Jiangnan families. Although the tradition of the youth group as a sacrificial object has faded into the memory, its status as a seasonal snack has become stronger.
Medical professionals pointed out that although the Youth League has a unique delicacy, the public should avoid excessive consumption to avoid health effects.
