Red Star News reported on April 1, 2023 that a 5-year-old boy in Jiangsu was abused by his biological mother and his legs were amputated, which attracted attention. After the incident, the biological mother, Gu Moumou, was detained on suspicion of abuse and prosecuted. In October 2023, the case was tried in the resident court of the Nantong Municipal Detention Center, but the verdict was not pronounced in court.

Mr. Men once introduced to Red Star News that he is a native of Anhui Province, has been working in Jiangxi for a long time, and his 5-year-old son lives in Pingchao Town, Nantong, Jiangsu Province with his biological mother Gu Moumou, and he will send living expenses to his family every month. On January 2, 2023, he received a call from Gu Moumou, saying that his son was sick and could not walk with his legs. When he rushed home, he found that his son's feet were red and swollen, and the first toe had turned black. When sending his son to the hospital, his son said that Gu Moumou let himself stand in cold water and scalded himself with hot water. He suspected that his son was being abused and subsequently called the police. Due to gangrene in both feet, my son underwent bilateral calf amputation surgery on February 1.

According to the indictment of the Tongzhou District People's Procuratorate provided by Mr. Men, on January 3, 2023, the victim's father called the police. On January 5, Gu Moumou was arrested by the Tongzhou District Public Security Bureau and truthfully confessed his crime. Gu Moumou was criminally detained by the Tongzhou District Public Security Bureau on January 6 on suspicion of abuse, and was arrested on March 17 with the approval of the Tongzhou District People's Procuratorate.

The above-mentioned indictment shows that from February 2022 to early January 2023, Gu Moumou often abused the victim because he had a weak relationship with the victim Men Moumou's mother and son, and thought that he was disobedient. In the meantime, in May 2022, the kindergarten teacher found that the victim Men Moumou was obviously emaciated and had multiple external injuries on his body, and promptly reported it to the relevant departments. Gu XX did not repent after being educated and admonished by the relevant departments, and continued to abuse the victim in the manner described above, causing him to suffer severe malnutrition, mental malaise, and frequent bruises and skin injuries on his body.

According to the indictment, between November 2022 and the occurrence of the case, Gu Moumou repeatedly injured the victim by letting his feet stand in a basin of cold water and scrubbing his body by himself, not wearing shoes and socks, not giving him bedding, letting him lie down without effective warm measures and clothes, and sleeping alone on the open-air balcony on the second floor for the night, and knowing that the victim Men XX had frostbite on his feet and unsteady walking, he still did not take him to seek medical treatment, causing him to suffer frostbite on both ankles in a short period of time. Traumatic subdural hemorrhage caused by a fall, causing intracranial hypertension and decreased vision in both eyes, as well as amputation due to frostbite necrosis of both ankles.

The Tongzhou District People's Procuratorate believes that Gu Moumou abused his young son for a long time and frequently, and the circumstances were heinous, causing the victim to be seriously injured in the first degree and seriously disabled. In addition, Gu XX voluntarily pleaded guilty and accepted punishment, and in accordance with relevant provisions, he may be given a lenient punishment.

After the incident, the child underwent amputation and surgery to treat intracranial hypertension. On April 7, Mr. Men told Red Star News that his son was visually disabled after the incident and could not even read. Recently, he took his child to Beijing to see his eyes, and the child has improved compared to last year and has regained a little bit of vision. The leg was fitted with a brace last year, and it's still the same. "The child will not be discharged from the hospital until April 15, and I want to go (to attend the trial), but the child will not be able to do it alone, no one will take care of him, and it may be a lawyer who will appear in court at that time. ”

Mr. Men recalled that the day before the first trial last year, the child's grandmother pleaded for a lighter sentence. During the trial last year, Gu Moumou also shed tears at the scene and expressed regret for what he had done. At the time, his appeal was for a heavier sentence.
