Recently, during the 2024 China International Fashion Week, the special release of outstanding works of the 13th "Big Wave Cup" China Women's Wear Design Competition was successfully held. This is the first time that the "Big Wave Cup" has appeared on the stage of China International Fashion Week, which is not only to help young designers to get on the coveted higher stage, but also a demonstration of the achievements of the "Big Wave Cup" in promoting the field of China's original design.

Designing through eco-friendly fabrics and recyclable technology

The competition will be officially launched on December 25, 2023, with the theme of "Green Wing #Oriental", attracting a large number of mature designers and commercial designers to participate in the competition, basically covering the current domestic designer ecology. After 3 months of fierce competition, after the preliminary evaluation, special training camp and finals at different stages, the jury composed of 25 judges assessed and evaluated, according to the design creativity, theme interpretation, process technology, market potential and other aspects of the comprehensive evaluation of the work, the final 16 groups of contestants stood out with their comprehensive strength, and won the Golden Wave Award (Gold Award), Wave Award (Silver Award), Langhua Award (Bronze Award) and "Top 10" Designer (Excellence Award) titles, winning a total of 1.125 million yuan in cash awards.

The designers skillfully combine Chinese opera, papermaking, porcelain, wandering gods, lacquerware and other excellent traditional Chinese culture with modern design concepts, and at the same time closely follow the theme of sustainable fashion, using novel fabrics and tailoring technologies, through environmentally friendly fabrics such as fragrant cloud yarn, silk, wool, etc., discarded easy-to-pull rings, degradable pulp, color-changing yarn, tea dyeing, plant dyeing, 3D printing and other recyclable technologies, and consumption concepts such as "one clothes to wear more", presenting a visual and creative feast on sustainable fashion.

Over the past 13 years, it has attracted more than 10,000 designers to participate

Since its inception in 2011, the "Big Wave Cup" Women's Wear Design Competition, as the only fashion design competition in China that continues to focus on the "Oriental", has been committed to promoting the combination and dissemination of China's excellent traditional culture and contemporary fashion, and has become the most significant IP of the competition. Over the past 13 years, it has attracted more than 10,000 designers to participate, and continues to provide excellent design talents for the industry.

Song Zuyao, the winner of the "Golden Wave Award" (Gold Award) of this competition, said in an interview after the show that as an independent designer, he knows what a rare opportunity to appear on the stage of China International Fashion Week. Jiang Yujie, the winner of the "Wave Award" (Bronze Award) from Nanjing Special Education Demonstration College, said that the "Big Wave Cup" not only gives the contestants rich bonus rewards, but also too many additional spiritual rewards, such as the exposure and traffic of the "Chase the Waves, Designers" series of documentaries to let more people understand the designer group and help designers to appear on the stage of China International Fashion Week.

Liu Xiaoqing, editor-in-chief of China Apparel magazine, the journal of China Garment Association, and director of the organizing committee of "Dalang Cup", said, "Dalang Cup should not only 'welcome' more outstanding designers, but also promote more outstanding Chinese designers to 'go global' through continuous innovation and support, continue to promote the development of China's original design, and let the world see the power of Chinese design." ”

As one of the first batch of demonstration sites for the creation of characteristic towns in Guangdong Province, a pilot for the creation of world-class fashion towns, and the only fashion characteristic town in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Dalang Fashion Town has the reputation of "Chinese women's clothing looks at Shenzhen, and Shenzhen women's clothing looks at Dalang". The "Big Wave Cup" China Women's Wear Design Competition has built a broad platform for domestic and foreign fashion design talents to set up a collection of display, development, promotion, docking and other multi-functions, continuously accumulating momentum for the development of the town's garment industry, and becoming a booster for the transformation and upgrading of Dalang fashion town through talent docking and the influence of brand events. In the future, Dalang Fashion Town will rely on the Dalang (Huawei) Fashion Industry Digital Innovation Center to jointly create with regional fashion enterprises, focusing on R&D and design, flexible production, supply chain collaboration, brand marketing and other key links, to accelerate the in-depth integration of digital technology and the fashion industry.
