"In the War of Resistance in Western Yunnan, Baoshan was at the forefront and was bombed indiscriminately by more than 200 sorties by Japanese aircraft. Unwilling to be destroyed, the compatriots of all ethnic groups in western Yunnan rose up to fight, and they built roads, airports, fortifications, transported military rations, delivered ammunition, and carried stretchers, making important contributions to the War of Resistance Against Japan. The Chinese army lasted 8 months and 16 days to annihilate the Japanese army in western Yunnan and northern Burma, opening the prelude to the great counteroffensive in the Chinese theater and writing a glorious page in the history of the Chinese nation's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the history of the world's anti-fascist war. Chen Jing, an instructor of a certain brigade, told the officers and soldiers in the ceremony of commemorating the martyrs.
In front of the Heroes' Monument, the officers and men stopped from time to time to deeply feel the tremendous sacrifices made by the revolutionary martyrs for national independence and the happiness of the people.
