Momota

The Japan Badminton Association officially announced the lineup and training plan for the Tang You Cup on April 2, with former world No. 1 Kento Momota and world junior women's singles champion Yuka Miyazaki selected.

The finals of this year's Tongyou Cup will be held in Chengdu, China, from April 27 to May 5, and the deadline for each team is April 13.

In the soup cup, the Japan Badminton Association sent four men's singles players, namely world No. 6 Kodai Naraoka, No. 12 Kenta Nishimoto, No. 21 Hangki Watanabe, and Kento Momota, who has fallen to No. 51. Kodai Naraoka and Kenta Nishimoto will be the top two men's singles players, and they will undoubtedly guarantee the team's score in the men's singles event.

Momota won gold medals at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships as a former world No. 1 in men's singles, but has not been able to return to peak form since a car accident in 2020. Although he is now ranked 7th in the men's singles rankings, the BWF still chooses to trust the experienced veteran. They may be expecting Momota to play a surprise role in key moments, such as when he appears as the third men's singles player, to win for the team.

In the men's team quarterfinals of the Asian Badminton Team Championships at the beginning of this year, Kento Momota appeared as the third men's singles in the fifth game, and when the deciding game was 12-19 behind, he scored 8 points in a row to defeat Srikanth 22-20, helping Japan narrowly defeat India 3-2 to advance to the semifinals.

Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi

In Men's Doubles, Japan fielded three pairs: 2021 world champions Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi, world No. 16 Teru Koga/Taichi Saito, and No. 25 Yoki Okamura/Kenya Mitsuhashi.

In the Uber Cup lineup, a total of four Japanese women's singles players were selected, world No. 4 Akane Yamaguchi, No. 13 Aya Ohori, No. 17 Nozomi Okuhara, and No. 25 Yuka Miyazaki. At just 17 years old, Miyazaki won the Women's Singles title at the World Junior Championships in 2022 and although she failed to defend her title at the 2023 World Junior Championships, her potential and talent have been highly recognized by the Japan Badminton Association. After a series of Super 300 tournaments, she quickly climbed to No. 25 in the world rankings and became the future hope of the Japanese women's singles future. In Women's Doubles, Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota were not selected due to Sayaka Hirota's injury and will be replaced by the old and new pair Ayako Sakuramoto/Rena Miyoura.
