In Yunnan, there is such a small city, bordering two countries, that is, Jiangcheng County. Mengkang Port is located at the No. 7 boundary marker of Zhonglao in Kangping Town, Jiangcheng County, 36 kilometers away from Jiangcheng County and 126 kilometers away from Pu'er City, adjacent to You County, Phongsali Province, Laos, and adjacent to Laos Landui Port, which is the second national first-class port between China and Laos after Mohan Port.

Due to the epidemic and other factors, the Mengkang Port was closed for a time, and on February 20, 2023, the port officially resumed passenger customs clearance.

1. How to get there

Mengkang Port is located next to Menglu Expressway, about 10 kilometers away from the exit of the expressway, so it is also very convenient to go by car.

If you take the car, there is a special bus line in Jiangcheng County, starting from the new passenger station in Jiangcheng County and ending at Mengkang Port.

The special line departs from the new passenger station in Jiangcheng County at 8 o'clock and 14:30, and returns from Mengkang Port at 10 o'clock and 17:30. The one-way journey is 40 kilometers and takes 1 hour.

The fee is $25 per person.

2. Mengkang Port

The area where the port is located is tropical, so there are trees all along the way. After almost 1 hour of driving, we arrived at the port.

The place where the port is located is not large, and the most important thing is the supporting customs and other institutions and a border market.

After getting off the bus, I found that there were quite a lot of people at the port, and the bustling people and vehicles of China and Laos were at the entrance and exit ports. Especially in the border market between China and Laos and Vietnam, there are even more people, like rushing to the market, people come and go.

Because this is the junction of China, Laos and Vietnam, the market is full of Laos and Vietnamese goods, and if you want to buy some special goods, you can definitely browse here.

Walking into the market, there are dozens of stalls on both sides of the road, mainly Vietnamese and Lao special snacks, with rich categories and very attractive.

Coming out of the market, I saw many trucks hanging from China and Laos in the port yard, and most of the trucks were tropical fruits such as sugarcane.

The China-Laos No. 7 boundary monument belongs to a single boundary monument, and by the way, the mainland boundary monument can be divided into three types according to the main category:

(1) Stand-alone boundary pillars: directly erected on the land boundary line, and their monument numbers are natural numbers, such as China-Laos Boundary Pillar No. 7 and China-Vietnam Boundary Pillar No. 456.

(3) Three boundary monuments: erected on the banks of three rivers at the intersection of the boundary river and the inland river or at the diversion place, and the monument number is the natural number plus (1) or (2) or (3), such as China, Mongolia and Russia jointly erected a zero boundary monument.

Generally speaking, only a single boundary pillar is on the border line, and a single boundary pillar is set up to go abroad.

On the other hand, the two and three boundary pillars are generally limited by environmental conditions, and the two countries erect boundary pillars on both sides of the border line. Generally speaking, the vicinity is the territory of the country, for example, Boundary Pillar No. 100 at the mouth of the river is located on the sidewalk on Hekou Street, which is completely Chinese territory.
