The governor of the three eastern provinces of the Sunqing Dynasty, Zhao Erxun

Zhao Erxun (1844-1927), a member of the Late Qing Dynasty, was a member of the Blue Banner of the Han Army. Originally from Tieling, Liaoning, he was born into a family of official eunuchs, and successively served as the governor of Yushi, the governor of Shanxi, and the governor of Sichuan. Zhao Erxun was a prominent figure in China's modern history and the last governor of the three eastern provinces of the Qing Dynasty. In 1914, he became the director of the Qing History Museum and edited the Draft History of the Qing Dynasty.

The Wuchang uprising left Zhao Erxun, the last governor of the three eastern provinces, in a panic, and he plunged into Qingdao to hide in Qingjing. In Qingdao, Zhao Erxun left a lot of interesting things. On March 14, 1912, the "Declaration" stated: "Zhao Erxun sneaked to Qingdao, stayed in the Huiqian (Huiquan) Hotel, and often communicated with Lu Fu Zhang Guangjian and others. Zhao Erxun was a former high-ranking official of the Qing Dynasty, but it was the first time he had stayed in this luxurious hotel. He was most satisfied with the "bathroom", as soon as the water dragon was turned on, hot water came. The most distressing thing is Western food, although chopsticks can be used after negotiation, but the dish can not be named, the taste is not right, and there is no tea to drink, only coffee, want to eat Chinese food need to go to dabao Island area, take half an hour by carriage. He sought land near the police station, designed and built mansions, and specifically demanded bathrooms like hotels.

Zhao Erxun came to Qingqing and visited the Governor of De according to the Qing custom, and there was an official who received him and translated it by the translator, but Zhao Erxun could not understand it, and said with the second master of the entourage, please translate in Chinese. It turned out that the translator was from Ningbo, and his Chinese was Ningbo, and Zhao Erxun couldn't understand it. The Two Sides only had their own words, but they only exchanged a few words of greeting, and Zhao Erxun left a gift, which was the famous Northeast Ginseng. German officials thought that some tree roots were now disdainful, and the translator explained that this was a very valuable nutritional product in China, and the German officials thanked them and sent them to the door.

In the summer, there were many people coming to Qingdao, the hotel was full, all blue-eyed blond, and he and his wife were very uncomfortable. In front of the hotel, there is a bath, foreigners do not distinguish between men and women in the hotel to wear swimsuits to the bath, men only wear shorts, women also show their backs, especially legs, their wives advise them not to go out. He said: "Although foreigners are strong, they are ultimately barbarians, and they do not talk about culture at all, which is incomprehensible." Zhao Erxun built his own mansion in Qingdao, and after moving into the new residence, there were many Qing officials who came to Qingdao, and many of them were old friends with officials of the same dynasty, so he was happy. He formed the "Ten Elders Association" with Lu Runyu and Lao Naixuan, and felt that it was good for people to say that Qingdao was a "peach blossom source". Talking with Lü Haihuan about the beach, Lü Haihuan laughed, because Lü had been an envoy to foreign countries for many years, and he told Zhao Erxun that Westerners advocate "freedom" and "nature", and China will do the same in the future. Zhao Erxun said, Isn't that an insult to the ancestors' last wishes?

Master of Traditional Chinese Studies - Zhang Taiyan

Zhang Taiyan (1869~1936), originally known as Xuecheng, zimei uncle, later renamed Binglin, a native of Yuhang, Zhejiang. Late Qing dynasty and early Ming Dynasty thinker, historian, and revolutionary of the old democracy. He is a well-known scholar whose research scope involves history, philosophy, politics, Buddhism, medicine, etc., and has written a lot of books. Well-known disciples include Huang Kan, Qian Xuantong, Lu Xun and so on.

Zhang Taiyan's coming to Qingdao to stay at the Seaside Hotel was something Lu Hai had recently learned about, and he said he learned about it through Zhang Taiyan's students. Lu Hai gave the reporter the following text:

After the "918" incident in 1931, the three eastern provinces were in danger, and Zhang Taiyan resolutely advocated anti-Japanese resistance. However, the Chinese defenders retreated without a fight, which made Zhang Taiyan very disappointed in the Kuomintang government. Despite his old age and physical decline, he continued to preach unity against Japan and save the nation from danger. He telegraphed with Shen Junru to denounce the Kuomintang's policy of non-resistance: "When the country is in crisis to this point, it is still not striving to move forward in an attempt to recover, and what is the matter with the rectification of the army on weekdays?" We should immediately urge the advance and seek self-sacrifice. If you sit on the river and watch the degeneration, this is really self-denial to the people of the country, willing to be a slave! He arrived in Qingdao in 1931 after the Nationalist government took over Qingdao. In 1930, under the leadership of Cai Yuanpei, the National Qingdao University was opened, with Yang Zhensheng as the president, and Cai Yuanpei always paid attention to the university. In addition to Yang Zhensheng's extensive recruitment of famous teachers such as Yiduo and Liang Shiqiu, he also invited famous teachers to give lectures at National Qingdao University. Among them, in the winter of 1931, Zhang Taiyan was invited to Qingdao, and Qingdao, which Zhang Taiyan had longed for for more than ten years, finally received him. He lived in the Huiquan Hotel (seaside hotel) at that time, so jiaojiao feasted on him in Jufu Building. Subsequently, he made a report at Qingdao University on "doing one's own thing and being ashamed", and was greatly indignant at the Kuomintang's abandonment of the three eastern provinces without a war. Unfortunately, Zhang Taiyan completed his trip to Qingdao, but did not write a poem. In June 1936, Zhang Taiyan died of illness in Suzhou.
