Samsung regained the world's No. 1 smartphone sales!

On April 1, according to Korean media reports, Samsung won praise in the North American market with the successful launch of the S24 series, and regained the world's No. 1 smartphone sales throne from Apple after five months. It is reported that the sales growth of folding screen phones such as Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 has also contributed to Samsung's regaining the first place.

According to the latest data released by Counterpoint and Hana Financial Investment, Samsung's smartphone sales reached 19.69 million units in February this year, accounting for 20% of the market share. Apple sold 17.41 million units, accounting for 18% of the share. This is the first time since September last year that Samsung has regained its global leadership.

In terms of market segments, Samsung maintains its leading position in Europe with a market share of 34%. The United States, Apple's home base, also performed well, with Samsung's market share jumping from 20% in January to 36% in February, eating up the share lost by Apple (from 64% to 48%).

According to Korean media analysis, Samsung's main contributor to regaining the top spot is the S24 series launched in January, with sales of 6.53 million units as of the end of February. Although this is 10% less than the previous generation S23 (which sold 7.24 million units as of February 2023), the S24 series is about ten days behind the previous generation, and its performance is also worth watching.

Samsung surpasses Apple

Samsung's soaring market share in the United States, where high-end phones are contested, has also benefited from the S24 series. In February, 52% of Samsung's smartphone sales in the U.S. came from the S24 series. In addition, the folding screen phone, another pillar of Samsung's smartphone product line, has also received a positive response. In the six months to the end of February, the Z5 series sold a total of 7.39 million units (Flip 4.76 million units, Fold 2.63 million units), slightly ahead of the Z4 series (Flip 4.55 million units, Fold 2.8 million units), which sold a total of 7.35 million units. Samsung Electronics insiders said that the increase in sales of higher-end phones with higher profits will help improve performance.
