Zhu Xinjian (1953—2014.2.10), a native of Nanjing, Jiangsu. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Nanjing University of the Arts in 1980 and stayed on to teach at the school and is a member of the Chinese Artists Association. He won the Silver Award at the 6th National Art Exhibition, and won the National Children's Picture Excellence Award for his work "Removing the Three Evils". He designed the character modeling of the cartoons "The Mouse Marries the Girl", "The Adventures of Jin Yuanguo" and "Pipiru and Lu Xixi" for Shanghai Fine Arts Film Factory and CCTV, and the modeling design of the cartoon "Beauty Pageant" was nominated for the Excellence Award and the Golden Rooster Award of Shanghai Fine Arts Film Factory. He has held solo exhibitions in Belgium and France. His works have been collected by the National Art Museum of China, the National Gallery of Pictures, the Royal Museum of History of Belgium, and the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Zhu Xinjian's traditional figures, flowers and birds are full of modern atmosphere, and the modern women and the places where they appear, including the tables, chairs, benches and lamps, all have traditional connotations. His poems and paintings match each other, and he insists on telling them in the most traditional way. He also has words in his words, a little ink, a branch, all of which release many modern ideas and characteristics. It is no exaggeration to say that Zhu Xinjian is the first person who can walk around so casually between tradition and modernity without losing each other, perhaps this is where Zhu Xinjian's classics lie.
Some people say that Zhu Xinjian's beauties are no different from opera characters, wine cups, fish and meat, swords and spears, swords and fans, and bearded eyebrows, all of which constitute part of his consistent ideals of the rivers and lakes. In his ideals of rivers and lakes, there are three points of Zen Buddhism, seven points of Lao Zhuang, and in his spiritual personality, there are six points of Gu Long, three points of Shi Nai'an, and one point of Lanling Xiaoxiaosheng. It is this kind of ideal, which is full of romanticism and has a very utopian temperament, that dominates his paintings, his daily life, and even shapes his life.
Zhu Xinjian's unique works have made the world known, and the evaluation of his works is almost clear, with no middle ground. Those who like it talk about it, they can't put it down, and they can deduce a thousand kinds of words, and those who don't like it sneer. Some high-level scholars believe that Zhu Xinjian is one of the painters who has made the greatest contribution to the development of modern Chinese ink art after the reform and opening up, promoted the development of Chinese ink painting, and is the most accomplished painter in the "new literati painting" at this stage. His works vividly and profoundly reflect an artist's ontological reflection on the emancipation of Chinese society and human nature during this period, which is the awakening and ability of artistic thought, and the cornerstone of his unique cultural personality.
