Finance Associated Press, February 28 (edited by Ma Lan) At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, some technology people saw the possibility of no longer using smartphones in the future.

AI startup Humane announced the launch of its AI Pin product in November 2023. The device is so small and delicate that the user attaches it to the chest with the help of magnets and interacts with it with voice or gestures. And at this exhibition, this product undoubtedly attracted enough attention.

Bethany Bongiorno, CEO and co-founder of Humane, demonstrated some of the uses of the AI Pin: After touching the wake-up device, she asked the AI Pin a series of questions, such as the exchange rate of the dollar against the euro and where she is now.

In addition, the device has a built-in translation function in more than 50 languages, which can easily answer how to find a good café in Barcelona and automatically switch to the local language, providing users with simultaneous interpretation services with locals.

Above the device, in addition to the camera, there is a laser emitter that emits a laser that projects images and text on the user's raised palm. Bongiorno took advantage of this feature to take a photo and project it onto the palm of his hand.

She also directs the AI Pin to respond differently through gestures such as palm swiping and finger pinching. Bongiorno points out that gesture commands are very important because sometimes users may not be able to talk to the device, or may not want to talk.

Pin also has its own phone number, so it can be considered a completely separate device from a smartphone. In addition to making calls and sending messages, it also has built-in AI models to help users generate message content.

The product is currently available for pre-order in the US market and is priced at $699, while the $24 monthly subscription fee will provide users with phone and unlimited data. Its partners in the United States are T-Mobile.

Humane, meanwhile, also announced South Korea as its first international market, saying it had signed an agreement with South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom.

At the moment, Humane has not disclosed specific details of its mass production plans, only revealing that deliveries will begin in the US market in mid-April.
