A friend who left a private message asked: Can you talk about the integration relationship between MES and ERP, SCM, WMS, APS, SCADA, PLM, QMS, etc. Here's an overview to share:

The relationship between MES and ERP, SCM, WMS, APS, SCADA, PLM, QMS

▲ The integration relationship of each system with MES as the core

1. MES and ERP system:

Relationship: MES provides real-time production data and status, and collaborates with ERP system production planning, inventory management and other modules. ERP provides basic data to MES for synchronization.

Differences: MES focuses on real-time monitoring, job scheduling and quality management of the manufacturing process, while ERP system focuses more on the management and planning of overall business finance, including finance, procurement, sales, inventory, production, etc.

2. MES and SCM system:

Relationship: MES provides real-time production data, demand information, status, etc., to help the SCM system achieve more accurate inventory management and delivery time estimation. SCM feeds back the arrival time to MES.

Differences: MES is primarily concerned with the monitoring and scheduling of internal manufacturing processes, while SCM systems cover the coordination and optimization of supply chain activities such as logistics, inventory, and orders.

3. MES and WMS system:

Relationship: MES transmits the product information and distribution requirements to the WMS for inventory management and warehousing operations, and updates the inventory status. The WMS system also provides the MES with relevant material inventory, distribution tasks and spare parts information.

Differences: MES focuses on real-time monitoring of manufacturing processes and production plans, while WMS systems focus on warehousing and logistics management, including inventory management, order picking, etc.

4. MES and APS system:

Relationship: MES will send information such as work order execution results and abnormal alarms to APS, and APS will send work orders and scheduling instructions to MES.

Differences: MES is a manufacturing execution system, APS is an advanced planning and scheduling system, the two are sometimes included in a product, MES and APS can be combined to achieve a closed-loop management model of planning and workshop execution.

5. MES and SCADA:

Relationship: MES transmits task information and standard process parameters to SCADA, and SCADA transmits equipment status and operating parameters to MES.

Difference: SCADA is between PLC and MES in the factory automation system. SCADA is mainly based on equipment, through data acquisition and monitoring, to generate various equipment data, to provide to MES; MES is to pay attention to the current on-site production situation, can immediately solve the current production resource bottleneck problem; in terms of target segmentation, SCADA focuses on equipment, MES is the process.

6. MES and PLM system:

Relationship: PLM transmits process routes, process parameters, drawings, work instructions, change notices, etc. to MES.

Differences: MES mainly focuses on real-time monitoring and control in the manufacturing process, PLM mainly focuses on all stages of the product life cycle such as design, development and marketing, MES is generally applied by manufacturing site personnel, and PLM is applied by R&D and designers.

7. MES and QMS system:

Relationship: MES plays an important role in quality management, supporting quality monitoring, defect traceability, and quality improvement activities by recording and analyzing real-time data from the production process. The integration of MES with QMS systems enables more comprehensive quality management and traceability capabilities.

Differences: In addition to quality management, MES also includes functions such as job scheduling and resource management, while QMS systems focus on quality control, quality inspection, and quality improvement management. However, in many products, QMS is regarded as one of the large modules of MES/MOM.

MES is a very technical, business and management solution, to do a good project requires not only excellent software architecture design and developers, but also the participation of professionals such as industrial engineering, enterprise management, process experts and project management experts. Therefore, we have always said: management is no small matter, delivery needs to be careful.
