On a country-by-country basis, Japan and the United States are the biggest winners, but China's strong rise is just as remarkable.

There are four Japanese car companies on the list, namely Toyota, Nissan-Mitsubishi, Honda, and Suzuki, three American car companies on the list, namely Stellantis, General Motors, and Ford, and Hyundai in South Korea and Volkswagen in Germany.

Compared with 2022, the top three in 2023 are exactly the same in terms of specific rankings:

The first is Toyota with 11.2 million sales, the second is Volkswagen with 9.24 million units, and the third is Hyundai with 7.3 million units.

The fourth and fifth have not changed, but the positions have been reversed. The sixth, seventh, and eighth remained unchanged, and it was still GM, Honda, and Ford, with sales of 4.87 million units, 3.97 million units, and 3.95 million units, respectively.

The ninth place is occupied by the "newcomer" BYD. Suzuki, who finished ninth in 2022, slipped to tenth in 2023. BMW, which ranked tenth in 2022, will be squeezed out of the top 10 list in 2023.

2. Toyota won the championship four years in a row

Toyota is indeed strong, and as of 2023, it has won the title of the world's largest car company for four consecutive years.

Specifically, Toyota's total global sales reached a record high of 11,233,039 units, including Daihatsu and Hino.

If brands such as Daihatsu, Hino and Lexus are excluded and Toyota is counted separately, its global sales are as high as 10.3 million units.

The biggest change in the list of the world's top ten car companies in 2023 is the strong entry of Chinese car company BYD, which squeezes BMW out of the list.

BYD's sales growth in recent years can be described as "soaring".

In 2021, BYD's annual sales will only be 730,000 units, not to mention the world's top ten car companies, and even China's top ten car companies can't be used.

However, in 2022, after BYD announced that it would stop producing fuel vehicles, its sales began to skyrocket, selling 1.86 million units that year, becoming the best-selling car market in China, ending the 40-year monopoly history of joint venture car companies.

In 2023, BYD will ride the wind and waves, with monthly sales of only 150,000 units at the beginning of the year, and more than 300,000 units in December at the end of the year.

This year, BYD sold 3.02 million vehicles and became one of the top ten car companies in the world. This is also the first time that a Chinese car company has made this list.

It is worth noting that among the top ten car companies in the world in 2023, except for BYD, the market share of the other nine car companies is declining compared with 2022.

BYD, on the other hand, has been climbing, with a market share of 0.9%, 2.3%, and 3.5% from 2021 to 2023, respectively, with a very obvious upward trend.
