Musk: If the media gives me $1 per article, I will never have to raise money

Finance Associated Press, February 8 (Editor Xiaoxiang) Musk's social media platform X jumped to the top of the free app download list of Apple's App Store in one fell swoop on Wednesday.

Musk tweeted on platform X in the early hours of Thursday morning Beijing time, "If I could get a dollar every time the media reported that one of my companies was about to fail, I would never need to raise any more money!"

Almost at the same time that the tweet was posted, Musk also retweeted a tweet from "DogeDesigner", a user of the X platform.

A comparison chart released by "DogeDesigner" shows that X still made a strong appearance at the top of the AppStore download chart on Wednesday, despite the mainstream media in the United States continuing to sing about the prospects of the X platform after Musk's acquisition of Twitter.

Musk is also proud to say that X is now the number one downloaded app of all app types.

There is no doubt that as soon as X achieved good results, Musk jumped out to criticize the media that had sung about him in the past, which was quite a slap in the face and revenge.

And judging from the current background, part of the reason why Musk is so concerned about the situation of the X platform is because the decentralized social media platform Bluesky recently ended the invitation-only beta phase and officially opened registration to the public.

As a result, many industry insiders believe that this may have an impact on the industry status of the X platform.

It is reported that Bluesky was created by Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, and the number of invited users during the closed beta period exceeded 3 million. Bluesky focuses on a decentralized social experience: it uses the AT protocol to allow users to easily port their social connections on the platform to other platforms, and at the same time, users can customize dynamic push algorithms to control the flow of information received, reducing the disadvantages of traditional social media being limited by a single algorithm.

Why did the X platform reach the top overnight?

It is worth mentioning that there is also a certain special reason why the X platform was able to top the Apple App Store download on Wednesday.

At present, there are two main driving factors that are mentioned in the circle:

The first claim is related to former Fox News TV host Tucker Carlson, who announced on X that he would be interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin. The trailer, which was released on the X platform, has garnered more than 66 million views. Carlson, 54, has millions of viewers.

Russia Today TV also said on platform X that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had confirmed the news. This will be the first time Putin has given an in-depth interview to Western media since the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

According to Appfigures, an app intelligence company, X began climbing the App Store charts around 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday and became the number one app by midnight.

On top of that, another industry belief that the X platform was able to make it all the way to the top last night is not so favorable for the company - on Wednesday, rapper Drake's indecent video went viral on the X platform, and the "Drakevideo" hashtag became a hot topic in the United States.

This is very reminiscent of late January, when the "indecent photo" of the world-famous singer Taylor Swift, faked by AI, went viral on X, with tens of millions of views.

Joe Benarroch, head of business operations at X, has now said in an emergency statement that X is "fully committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all users" and that X has a "zero-tolerance policy" for sharing non-consensual nude images.

Benarroch also noted that X has taken action on thousands of posts and is "actively monitoring the situation" to remove new offending posts. (Finance Associated Press Xiaoxiang)
