One of the earliest residents of Shiquanhe is Sonam Yesi, a 55-year-old transport driver, whose family has lived in the Ali area for four generations and has been making a living from hunting.
His grandfather was a frequent visitor on both sides of the Shiquan River, and in his mouth, we learned about the historical significance of the Saitula outpost, which was set up by Zuo Zongtang in the Qing Dynasty when he recovered Xinjiang, and witnessed the historical status of the Ali region as a battleground for modern soldiers.
Later, the British and Indians also eyed the area, but during the Anti-Japanese War, the Chinese army successfully stopped the invasion of the invaders, making the Sangzhu Ancient Road an important transportation route for supplies.
Then, as time passed, Sonam Yesi's father gave up hunting and started a fur business.
After the reform of Tibetan serfs in 1959, the Ali region began to gradually carry out urban construction. Sonam Yeshi recalls spending time with his father when he was a child, when the journey from the Shiquan River to Lhasa took half a month, but now it only takes two to three days.
In 1950, when the first regiment of the cavalry division overcame many difficulties and finally arrived at its destination, it was due to the lack of nursing measures that Li Disan and 63 soldiers were buried here and sacrificed their lives to defend the frontier.
Therefore, the local martyrs' cemetery still holds an oath-taking ceremony for young people to join the party every year, inspiring a new generation of young people.
And the rise here is not accidental, it is the result of the joint efforts of several generations.
From the historical background of the Sonam Yixi family, to the great changes in the Shiquan River, to the spiritual symbol of the martyr Li Disan, these stories together constitute the rich historical picture of Shiquanhe Town.
In this land, we see the spirit of perseverance, the courage of selfless dedication, and the infinite vision for the future.
So how did such a once defeated town develop now?
2. Twenty years of construction

Since the 60s, the town, which once consisted of a herder and a few cows, has undergone a sea change. Today, however, it is a transport hub, an economic centre and a tourist destination with modern infrastructure.
The transformation of the town's appearance began in 2017 with the "One River and Two Banks" Landscape Improvement Project, which transformed Shiquanhe Town into a modern city full of culture, leisure atmosphere, ecological landscape and entertainment facilities.
Its 373 buildings have been carefully remodeled to create a unique façade style, and civic facilities such as public seating, fruit boxes, street lamp stands, and bus stops have been added to the streets. The completion of Zhangxiong Cultural Square has added a strong cultural atmosphere to Shiquanhe Town.
