As long as the ultra-wide-angle lens of the 899, the Vitros 20mm F2.8 is also here to make friends with Nikon users!
Design
In appearance, it stands out from a small one, weighing only 173g, which is lighter than some mobile phones. The mirror body is made of plastic, which has a slightly frosted feel and is not easy to leave fingerprints.
The price of small size is that it is difficult to plug the physical buttons, and the only thing that can be controlled on the lens body is the focus ring, which has moderate damping, not loose, and a good manual focusing experience.
Theory test
We used the Nikon Z 6II with this lens for all the theoretical tests.
001 resolution test
At f/2.8, the lens performs well in center acutance, but the corners are weak, and when you stop down one stop, center sharpness also improves, and edge quality improves significantly.
When the aperture is stopped down to f/5.6, center sharpness is at its best, with edge peaks around f/8.
At F11, the image quality has been reduced due to diffraction.
In summary, the sweet spot for acutance is in the range of F5.6-F8.
002 Bokeh Test
When we tested the bokeh at a minimum focusing distance of 0.19m, we can see that thanks to the seven-aperture blade design, the spot appears polygonal at maximum aperture, although it is relatively uniform overall and there are no noticeable bright edges. Some of the stars can be seen at F11.
Shot at a minimum focusing distance of 0.19m
003 Vignetting test
Vignetting is visible when shooting at the maximum aperture, which is greatly reduced when zoomed down to F4, and has little to no effect on the frame at subsequent stops.
004 Distortion Test
Although Adobe has updated the profile of this lens, the corrected results are not very good, and the corners are still a little curved.

005 Dispersion Test
We shot metal cutlery at close focus distances and zoomed in to 300%, and at F2.8 only, there was very slight dispersion in some highlights, and the overall performance was very good.
006 Respiratory Effect Test
When switching between near and far focus, there is a visible change in the breathing of the picture. For users who mainly shoot videos, there is a need for attention.
007 Autofocus test
In order to avoid the difference in focus caused by the model, we first focused on the center point in the photo mode, and we can see that although the closest focusing distance is closer, the focusing speed is still relatively fast when switching between high and near focus, and we do not hesitate.
After turning on AF-C face recognition, the person walks from far and near, although the fuselage is recognized, but the focus tracking does not keep up. Focusing performance is determined by both the body and the lens, and the test is for reference only
008 Glare Ghost Test
Judging by the test of flashlight irradiation, there is only slight glare and ghosting at a completely direct angle.
009 Color Propensity Test
The Z6II's Auto White Balance, Standard mode was used to capture and subjectively analyze the Deta color card, and overall, the color rendering is similar to that of the naked eye, the colors are not dull, and the color temperature is relatively accurate.
Real-life experience
20mm is not too wide, in many ultra-wide-angle focal lengths, it is relatively easy to control the composition, when shooting space or architecture, you can find lines and vanishing points and other elements that are conducive to composition, to achieve visual guidance, so that the attention is more focused on the subject.
In a limited space, using an ultra-wide angle can better show an imposing picture, and trying to shoot close to the foreground can also reflect the sense of line of the building more exaggeratedly.
Shot with the Nikon Z 6II, center sharpness is good at wide aperture, and detail remains very good at zooming in. The edges of the windows at the top of the building show very slight dispersion in backlit conditions, and the lens is generally well-controlled.
Enlarged in the center of the image above
In the face of complex scenes, the overall picture looks good, and the details in each part of the focus are still relatively good.
If you are not used to the focal length of 20mm, you can try to use it in APS-C format, which is equivalent to 30mm, which is closer to the classic 35mm humanistic focal length, and has a more realistic sense of street sweeping.
However, there are relatively large vignetting angles at the maximum aperture, especially when shooting the sky, and can be effectively controlled at F4.
And it's small enough for selfies or street sweeping, and it's less stressful to shoot while walking. However, at present, most models in Nikon's full-frame mirrorless screen do not have a side-flip screen, and it is still a bit troublesome to take a selfie.
Review
On the basis of taking into account both light weight and cost performance, this Vitros 20mm F2.8 still has a good optical quality, which can not only meet the needs of selfie vlog users for focal length and lightness, but also suitable for friends who like to sweep the street with ultra-wide angle.
Merit:
1. The lens is compact
2. The picture quality is good, and the dispersion is well controlled
3. The price is affordable
Shortcoming:
1. The distortion correction effect is not good
