Mazda's all-new CX-70 made its debut in overseas markets on March 31 and is scheduled to be launched in China later this year. The model, codenamed J90A, may be officially unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show.
The new car has a family-style design and is equipped with a variety of powertrains, including petrol and plug-in hybrids. It is expected to cooperate with Changan Automobile, and its competitors include the Volkswagen Tiguan L, Toyota Highlander, Haval H6 and Geely Xingyue L.
The Mazda CX-70 adopts a design similar to the CX-90, with a sporty exterior styling. The blacked-out lattice grille at the front is combined with the LED headlamps to create a highly recognizable design. At the rear, there is a concealed exhaust layout, and the LED taillight clusters are the same as other models in the brand. The overall design style is sporty and stylish, which is impressive.
The interior of the Mazda CX-70 continues the brand's traditional layout, with elements such as a floating center console and a three-spoke steering wheel retained, and the overall texture is excellent. The pure fuel version comes in a red/black color scheme for a sporty look, while the plug-in hybrid version is dominated by black to highlight the technological atmosphere. The configuration includes a full LCD instrument, wireless charging for mobile phones, HUD head-up display, Nappa leather seats, Bose audio, etc., and the car system also integrates Amazon Alexa and supports voice control.
The global version of the CX-70 will be powered by a 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 340 hp in the petrol version. The plug-in hybrid version will be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor with a maximum power of 323 hp and an all-electric range of 30 miles. It is expected to be equipped with a four-wheel drive system as standard. The locally-produced CX-70 will be based on Changan's EPA hybrid platform, supporting pure electric and extended range power, and will be available in a "special version" model.
The all-new Mazda CX-70 will further enrich the competitive landscape of the mid-size SUV market with its family-style sporty design, refined interior, diverse powertrains, and world premiere.
