Professor Brett Gartrell, director of Massey University Hospital, who was responsible for diagnosing Espy 1B, shared the condition of the parrot: "The CT scan showed that the skull of Espy 1B was not completely closed, and part of the brain tissue and dura mater protruded from the skull "hole", separated from the outside world by a thin layer of tissue. Once this layer of tissue is damaged, Espy 1B's brain will be severely traumatized and polluted. ”

Massey University Wildlife Base Hospital then issued a statement on its official website stating that Espy 1B is recovering well after surgery and will soon return to its home at Dunedin Wildlife Hospital.
