Project-based learning
In 2023, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Pearl Primary School, Pearl students have conducted a series of project-based learning and exploration with the theme of "My School Celebration, My Decision, and the Future of School Celebration". On the morning of January 18, 2024, the teachers and students of the school celebration project team presented the project story exhibition and performance activities of the birth, process and results of the project to the teachers and students of the school.
The experts who participated in the event included Cui Chunhua, deputy director of the Curriculum and Teaching Research Office of the Institute of General Education, Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences, and Yang Jinfang, director of the Institute of General Education of the Shanghai Academy of Education Sciences and a core member of the Shanghai Project-based Learning Project Team. Zhang Li, Chairman of Pearl Education Group, Principal of Pearl Primary School and Pearl Yingqiao Primary School, and all teachers of Pearl Primary School and Pearl Yingqiao Primary School participated in the event, and students and parents observed it online.

Director Cui Chunhua believes that the school celebration project is a very good interpretation of the school philosophy of Mingzhu Primary School, "grow up happily with wisdom".
The first is "the wisdom of the student". The design of the project is full of creativity, and I feel that the students love and pay attention to the campus, can get creative inspiration from campus life, and use various forms to display the results.
The second is "the wisdom of teachers". The project combines textbook knowledge and students' interests, and is highly relevant to real campus life. The learning guidance strategy and the provision of learning scaffolds help students solve problems in stages.
Future designers, poets, and songwriters will all grow up happily in the soil of Pearl.

Director Yang Jinfang was deeply impressed by the real interaction and sense of meaning and the satisfaction of problem solving. The spirit and culture of the school are naturally allowed for children to learn, perceive, internalize, and practice in project-based learning, which plays a role in moisturizing things and silently educating things. Today's project display not only reflects the growth of the children, but also reflects the wisdom of the teachers.
Finally, Director Yang brought us a lecture on "Project-based Learning Based on Literacy", focusing on "what is project-based learning", "what kind of learning can adapt to the future" and "how to carry out project-based learning". Starting from practice, Director Yang shared a number of interdisciplinary project cases, and gave detailed explanations on the issues that teachers are concerned about, which further pointed out the direction for the design and implementation of the project.
