As one of China's four major uninhabited areas, with an average altitude of 4,580 meters, the Altun Mountains in Xinjiang are sparsely populated, but there is a group of young communication workers who maintain the smooth communication of the Geku Railway.
There are a total of 55 communication workers in the Ruoqiang workshop of the communication section of the Urumqi Bureau, who are responsible for the equipment maintenance of more than 200 communication base stations in Altun Mountain. During the Spring Festival, they should adjust the state of the equipment to the best to avoid any danger of the passing train.
Xin Xiaoyu, 23 years old, who has been here for just a year, said that what she will never forget is the first experience of going up the mountain, the steep mountain road and the yellow sand in the sky, which made her feel very uncomfortable at first.
Xin Xiaoyu, communication worker of Ruoqiang Communication Workshop, Urumqi Communication Section, Urumqi Bureau of the National Railway: I cried when I first came, but they took great care of me.
The Geku Railway is an important channel for the export of coal from Xinjiang, ensuring the winter heating of thousands of households in Gannan, Qinghai and southwestern provinces. The 13.2-kilometre Altun Mountain Tunnel is the longest tunnel on the Geku railway line and is home to a large number of communication base stations. Upon arrival, the communications workers inspect each cable and equipment one by one.
Xin Xiaoyu, communication worker of Ruoqiang Communication Workshop, Urumqi Communication Section, Urumqi Bureau of the National Railway: Our operation time is limited, and we must complete the task within the skylight point, otherwise it will be easy to not be able to withdraw, resulting in the danger of people and vehicles encountering.
Inside the tunnel, there is a train passing by every less than an hour. Xin Xiaoyu's daily operations are generally completed within the time specified by the dispatch, and when they encounter temporary emergency tasks, they can only be completed in the interval between the trains.
Today's inspection mission in the Altun Mountain Tunnel was successfully completed. Soon, it was time for lunch, and everyone's lunch today was a piece of naan and a bottle of water.
Before a piece of naan could be eaten, an urgent order came over the walkie-talkie.
Staff: The workshop received a notice from the network management that the 40 repeater was faulty, and you quickly dealt with it.
After hearing the order, the young people hurriedly packed their tools and rushed to the fault point 5 kilometers away. After arriving at the scene, Xin Xiaoyu and his companions found that the equipment index exceeded the standard, which may interfere with the communication signal, and in half an hour, the train will pass through the tunnel, and they need to contact the network management to lower the index.
In less than half an hour, the young man with quick hands and feet cleared the hidden danger and quickly withdrew from the tunnel.
After 10 hours of busy travel, Xin Xiaoyu told reporters that there was a more difficult maintenance point waiting for them next.
After more than an hour of arduous trekking, we and these young people arrived at the foot of the Altun Mountains.
Urumqi Bureau of the National Railway Urumqi Communication Section Ruoqiang Communication Workshop Communication Management Charter: Today this road is quite easy to walk, if there is snow, it will be very slippery below.
Some people say that youth is colorful, but I choose to stick to this vast Gobi Desert, I think this is my youth.
