In April 2023, a "cherry special train" departed, and at Panzhihua South Station of the Xinchengkun Railway, railway staff loaded 10 pieces of 250 kg cherries into the designated carriage of the C72 Fuxing EMU.
"The cherries sent by customers are generally picked from the cherry orchard at about 6 o'clock every day, usually in two packages: small baskets of 1.5-2.5 kg and large baskets of about 15 kg. The whole train is air-conditioned, which is suitable for cherry storage, and some express shipments with a long transit time will also add ice packs or ice bottles to the packaging bag to cool down. As an important passage for Sichuan to the south, the release of the freight capacity of the new and old Chengdu-Kunming railways provides a broad space for the efficiency improvement of the southbound China-Laos trains.
"The new Chengdu-Kunming Railway connects to the Chengdu Railway Hub with the China-Europe Express Chengdu-Chongqing in the north, and connects to the China-Laos Railway through the Kunming Railway Hub in the south.
