In recent years, in the process of easing Beijing's non-capital functions and the high-standard and high-quality construction of Hebei Xiong'an New Area, more and more Beijing universities have embarked on the journey of relocation. This means that Xiong'an, Hebei Province, as the main undertaker of Beijing's non-capital functions, is strengthening its higher education strength with the settlement of Beijing universities.
Beijing colleges and universities, towards Xiong'an
According to the "National List of Colleges and Universities" released by the Ministry of Education in June 2023, 92 colleges and universities are located in Beijing, and "double first-class" universities (34) account for more than 1/3. Nowadays, with the release of colleges and universities in Beijing in phases and batches, Xiong'an, Hebei Province, is becoming a hot spot for colleges and universities to gather.
In November 2023, the construction of the Xiong'an campuses of four universities, including Beijing Jiaotong University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing Forestry University, and China University of Geosciences (Beijing), will all start.
As a "double first-class" university directly under the Ministry of Education, the four Beijing universities will be laid out according to the idea of one school, two districts and coordinated development. The Xiong'an campuses of the four universities are mainly located in the north of the fifth group of the starting area of Xiong'an New Area. The Xiong'an Campus of Beijing Jiaotong University covers an area of about 2,600 acres, the Xiong'an Campus of University of Science and Technology Beijing covers an area of about 2,450 acres, the Xiong'an Campus of Beijing Forestry University covers an area of about 2,200 acres, and the straight-line distance from the Beijing Campus is about 110 kilometers, and the Xiong'an Campus of China University of Geosciences (Beijing) covers an area of 1,600 acres and the construction land area is 1,200 acres.

The construction of Xiong'an Campus will significantly improve the conditions for running schools in colleges and universities, and lay a solid foundation for the school to achieve leapfrog development at a higher starting point. At the same time, the four universities have taken root in Xiong'an, which will provide high-level education and technology talent support for the high-standard and high-quality construction and development of Xiong'an New Area.
In addition to the first batch of four Beijing universities, the construction of the Xiong'an Campus of Peking University People's Hospital will also start construction in November 2023, and Gong Qihuang, President of Peking University, said that the Xiong'an Campus of Peking University People's Hospital will be built into a modern, high-level and distinctive national medical center based in Xiong'an and radiating to the whole country.
In addition, there are more Beijing colleges and universities that are accelerating their "flocking" to Xiong'an.
For example, the "14th Five-Year Plan" development plan of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications proposes to vigorously promote the construction of basic conditions and promote the construction of the Xiong'an New Area campus in accordance with the construction deployment of the Ministry of Education. Tian Jianhui, vice president of China Agricultural University, led a team to Xiong'an in April 2023 to carry out cooperative research on the construction of large facilities. Huang Yifang, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Beijing Language and Culture University, led a team to the University of Science and Technology Beijing to investigate, and made it clear that he would "promote the coordinated layout and coordinated development of the Beijing campus and the Xiong'an campus".

In addition to the construction of new campuses in Beijing, the strong rise of Xiong'an New Area has also attracted more universities to come to cooperate with the layout.
In March last year, Tongji University signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Management Committee of Hebei Xiong'an New Area. Tongji University will fully mobilize its own disciplinary advantages, further integrate resources, allocate sufficient strength, and continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation in the fields of urban safety, urban planning, architectural design, and smart transportation, so as to write the wisdom of Tongji on the land of Xiong'an.
Han Xu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hebei University of Technology, and Ma Guowei, Vice President of Hebei University of Technology, also walked into Xiong'an New Area in June last year for investigation. The university will promote scientific and technological innovation in Xiong'an New Area through the research and development of aerospace information technology, intelligent manufacturing equipment and technology, intelligent infrastructure construction and operation and maintenance technology, and the cultivation of management and technical talents at home and abroad. This shows that Hebei University of Technology, located in Tianjin, as the only 211 and "double first-class" affiliated to Hebei Province, has returned to Hebei.
In September 2023, the Xiong'an University Collaborative Innovation Alliance, initiated by the first batch of four universities and invited some enterprises, scientific research institutes and some universities in Hebei Province that are closely related to the characteristics and advantages of the four universities, was established. The establishment of the alliance not only injects strong impetus into the construction and development of Xiong'an New Area, but also provides a major opportunity for the development of universities, which is of great significance for exploring the open teaching and research management system and mechanism and innovative talent training mode between universities, and effectively and orderly promoting the collaborative innovation of universities.
In October 2023, Xiong'an New Area will hold the "Xiong'an Tour of 100 Universities". Nearly 700 people, including Sun Yao, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, heads of 150 well-known universities in China, and 21 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the event. At the event site, Xiong'an New Area reached a cooperation intention with 150 universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nankai University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Shenzhen University, and South China University of Technology to jointly build a talent introduction workstation, signed an industry-university-research project, and landed in the Xiong'an University Student Internship Base.
